I wanna make a simple 2d platformer

I messed with Torque 2D and Multimedia Fusion but I'm an artist not a programmer, is there anything easier out there? I used to have Game-Maker by Recreational Software Designs when I was a kid, it was mega easy, unfortunately I can't find any copies of it on the interwebs and I don't want to muck about with dosbox to get it working.

Your best bet will probably be the Scrolling Game Development Kit (version 2.0). It has a fair amount in common with Game Maker. (in that it has a more visual editor for code) It's based on the .Net framework, so you can use C# code to extend the basic abilities that it comes with. Moreover, its pretty good for simple platformers, and even comes with one as an example project.

One of the things I liked about it best is that it actually features tools for painting sprites right in the program itself. A nice tool for making placeholder graphics or quickly touching up backgrounds or seams.

Thanks Richard, I'm going to give the Scrolling Game Development Kit a shot. Japhir, I think I may of messed with yoyogames gamemaker before and found it a bit difficult

if I were you I'd make some awesome art, then post on gamedev and see if you couldnt find yourself a partner. Its near impossible to find someone for a giant project, but for a small possible one there are usually a few interested people.

I've done some stuff in Game Maker. It's actually quite easy to get something up and running, and you have some ability to extend it. Kind of fun actually.

perhaps Flash?
has at least the big advantage of showing your game directly online or beeing able to publish it as standalone application.
Even for Flash there are some ready made engines though from a personal point of view i´d rather would advise learning to script yourself.

I have written myself already alot of experimental engines in flash,- so if you need a little help you can ask me.
