(i made a new account but im actually a shy polycounter of several years and I know how to model etc.) after a long break away from modeling I'm planning on making some buildings for Dayz. (i tagged Arma3 in this because it seems a lot of the workflow is identical but somethings are different and this post could help arma…
I wasted so much time last year trying to find any generative AI that would do something helpful in gameart production. Very much to my surprise I found absolutely nothing . Especially after all those short AI youtube vertical videos. The gameart depends on subtle nuances too much, especially in realistic style . Too…
I'd say anything that is reusing a lot designer is king to build the trim sheets or tilables. Any unique asset will profit from sculpting. That being said, nobody is stopping you from using designer generators, textures etc to texture your uniquely sculpted mesh
post them flats. Got a ref? The bolts on the metal aren't bad. Kinda have a realistic haphazard look. Tricount doesn't matter as much as how well you used your polygons. Wireframe shots will help judge this. I'd trim it more, metal trim across the bottom, and lid edges. Handles on the sides aren't a bad idea either. Wood…
teaandcigarettes: Thanks! :D Yeah I need to do that soon before i forget ha. This new texture set has a reflection cube map applied to it so hopefully you can tell with the ground grating. I made a new trim texture set to give some variation to the ground and such. Up until this point the whole scene apart from the monitor…
This is one of the reasons I hate using atlases and prefer to use tiling textures and trim sheets. you have way more control over individual materials and can quickly push material definition a lot easier, and you can make a larger variety of modular pices and kits with only a few tiling materials. Atlases really limit how…
You ideally never want to have multiple material assignments on a single mesh. If you combine, use a trim or mask approach, if you have multiple materials, then split
Hey everyone, I am a uni student currently working on a project with some friends in UE4, and I have been working on a master material to provide us with some easy variation and functionality across the board. I'm primarily a 3D artist but I have been teaching myself how to work in the material editor for a while now, and…
Hello! I've encountered weird artefacts after light baking. I tried to bake it several times. First, I did test bakes at low settings for speed and noticed that usually the second bake produced these artifacts. To get rid of them, I had to discard the changes on github and start over. Now it seems that increasing the…
