World map reminds me of a mod project I did some models for back in 2008 or so, "Sheogoraths Otherworld" for TES:Iv Oblivion. It was a huge mod with a wonderful backstory, unfortunately, the graphical fidelity of the mod suffered greatly due to its author being more or less strictly a programmer.
That's awesome! I did an Icon of Sin boss character for an old DOOM 3 mod called Ruiner way back in the day. This is so awesome!! (Here's a link to the old mod and an image of my version: http://www.moddb.com/mods/ruiner/images/icon-if-sin)

Been working on some speedpaintings and a few quick characters the last couple of days Earlier this month I've been doing some characters for one my mods for Warcraft 3. the mod can be found here http://www.moddb.com/mods/advance-wars-steampunk-rising
you don't start the mod as the mod, you start it as UT3, copy the airborn folder into your UT root, change the link we put into the package so it has your UT root in it and not ours and thats it, run the mod. however change dm-001 in that link to dm-000 works better :)
Get a friend who does level design and make a mod together. Or get a programmer friend and make a game together. There's nothing stopping you from making your own fun little mod project thing, especially these days with UDK and Unity. You don't have to join a team to make a mod.

I know where I'm at in terms of modeling -- this project is intended to test me in materials and lighting. I'm binging and taking notes on UE4 Lighting…
I have a mud layer at the top of my stack, however the fabric normal map from the layers underneath are showing through it making the mud look weird. The mud is supposed to be more reflective and thick, but the normal map underneath is ruining it. I tried changing "Norm" to something else, but had no luck yet. Can someone…
