you've got access to insights and gpu capture tools in unreal - you can also get things like renderdoc working so analysing a capture is easy enough. there is also the potential for branching to cause the gpu to stall while doing on demand shader compilation - not sure how bad the issue is on current unreal versions…
True, I've seen some OEM versions around that are £30 cheaper but dont have both 32 and 64 bit versions on the same disc. Should have mentioned it. Don't buy the OEM version!
That's because you're probably using an older version of Zbrush that doesn't have dynamesh (or the slice curve tool). Z4R2 is the latest version (with Dynamesh), though an even newer version will be out in less than a week.

Krita has under: Filter -> Edge Detection -> Height to Normal Map.. with "some more" options. on OSX you don't just fetch some new driver off the web - it's all part of the OS version. perhaps there's a mismatch there vs. recommended version to run this particular maya version?
Working on a grungy cyber punk version. The idea is the clean version above is something you'd see an officer on a spacecraft using whereas this grungy version would be used by a gang member on some dusty dystopian planet
