I have what seems to be an unsolvable problem and it's driving me nuts.
I'm building an environment in Maya 2012.
For some reason, i can't import a mesh with multiple materials to give me multiple material slots in UDK static mesh editor. It has always worked on another computer at school, but for some reason it never works on my laptop which should be capable (Using Windows7 64-bit with Nvidia GTX460m, 8ram, 2.8ghz processor). In Maya, I keep getting the fbx export error that says it could not export certain materials as well:
[ Warning: unable to export some material(s) (1)
[[ The plug-in does not support the following material types:
Material will be exported as a grey Lambert material. ]]
And after I import the combined mesh into UDK, it gives me this message:
[[ An out of date FBX has been detected.
Importing different versions of FBX files than the SDK version can cause undesirable results. ]]
File Version: 7.2.0
SDK Version: 7.3.0
What I've tried:
re-installed latest fbx update (FBX 2013.2 Plug-in for Maya 2013 64-bit)
re-installed latest UDK update. (July 2012 UDK Beta)
Exported the fbx with smoothing turned on, and embed media checked.
Tried lambert, blinn, phong, phongE, and anistropic shaders
I don't want to bake my textures yet but i'll try that if nothing else works.
