Hi everyone.

Recently I have been watching many hours of video tutorials and decided to model something simple for practice. I basically made wall with two pipes (top and bottom). I also wanted to make it so I could repeat it as much as I need (I think it is called a prop but correct me if I'm wrong.)

It could be called a prop sure but I think 'modular asset' might be the more technically correct term since u could pop it in a level and then use it over and over again to help decorate/build your environment

Now make some connecting wall pieces that lets you bend the pipes around corners! :)

then woot.. you can build a whole level of these!

My next step is to start making some textures so if anyone has ideas for overall themes please let me know.

Anyone have any ideas on how to go about unwrapping all of this? :P I didn't come back to it until just now I don't know what to do.

Are you using Max or Maya?

In Max i'd select what i'd want to unwrap like lets say the pipe. The go to UVWmap, do a cylindrical UV map on it then go to UVWunwrap and tweek the UVs if needed and put them in the space you need them.

Or you could get slick and just do a Multi/Sub Object Map and then there is now real UV tweaking, atleast not for a Wall like that.

And then once you get the hag of it you can just duplacte the wall around and pull out something like
    3Hourspacehall.jpg

    in about 30 minutes.

And i can go into more detail for that if you'd like..if you are using Max.

None the less ur Wall is looking slick, with some textures you can call it done and make a hallway out of it and then just add props.

Well my problem is that the wall is one object and the floor and glass are another object. How do I separate the pipes so I can do a single unwrap for them? Oh and yes I'm using 3ds max.

just simply select all the pipe faces in face more and then you can UV amp the selection, then put an editable poly stack onto of the UV map once the pipe is done and make a new selection for UVmap ect. (somtimes u need to collapse the stack if it is getting too big, it will cause issues with your hotkeys)

I can take some screegrabs if that would help more.

I just tried it and I think I can do it. Thanks for the help and I will ask if I need some more help. But other than that I will try and I have another WIP done soon.
