    Poop...that is one sexy laptop!

    PC:

    Screen: 19" 1440x900
GFX card: GeForce FX 6600 128mb
    CPU: Athlon XP 3000
    RAM: 1 gb 400mhz
HD: 1 80 gb and 1 40 gb (unsure about the more technical bits...)
Yeah, I plan on upgrading around winter.

    Screen: 15.4" 1280x800
GFX card: GeForce Go 6200 256 mb

I got no picture maker! Bwaaaaaaah.

Screen: Samtron 19" 93 KHz (I think) running at 1280x960x85Hz
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ first gen 939
    GPU: NVidia Geforce 6800 (AGP)
    RAM: 2x512MB GEiL DDR-sumthin
Drives: IBM 160GB HDD, Samsung 80GB HDD, DVD drive (I'd have to look speed and manufacturer up by unscrewing it), DVD writer NEC 16x DL

Sound onboard, ASUS Wifi card, rt26x0 based, configured for Nintendo DS upload mode

Input devices: Logitech MX1000, Wacom Graphire, Speedlink Stormtrooper (gamepad), Microsoft XBox 360 controller, Microsoft Sidewinder Gamepad (gets connected on demand)

The Speedlink Stormtrooper has a nice deadzone for the analog stick in digital mode which makes it better for 2d games than the XBox 360 controller (which uses the dpad as a coolie hat and as such causes problems with many games).

Loooooove it. Great color reproduction, good contrast. If I could make an improvement, I would make it able to go brighter. It's great in the evenings and at night, but if it's too bright around, it's just a tad too dim. If it had one or two notches higher in the brightness I'd be happier.

Notman - it's only like 4 days in the future! :P

Neo - everything came up to just under $2200. Since Conroe's are still hard to come by, I'm also paying a slight premium (about $100 extra). The expensive mobo ($260) was from lack of options. It's the only Conroe-compatible mobo to have pci-e x16 SLI support. I could have waited another month for the Nforce5 boards, but they offer little more in performance. Once they come out though, the price on this mobo will likely drop to $200 or less.
A similar system built from Dell are Alienware is about $3000 or more.

And just for notman, my current specs smile.gif

    - Athlon64 3500+
    - ASUS A8N Deluxe mobo
    - Generic 350W PSU
    - Alienware case
    - 2GB Corsair XMS PC3200LL(2x1GB)
    - Nvidia Geforce 6800GT
    - Plextor 52x CDR+RW
    - Lite-On 8x DVDR+RW
    - 3HDDs (1x120gb)(1x80gb)(1x60gb)
    - Creative Audigy 2ZS

^^The only thing that's stock alienware now, is the case and plextor drive :P

Runs current/past gen games great. Stuff like FEAR, Company of Heroes or Oblivion makes it look old, though.

    And here's my "mobile desktop":
    0849ce1c0415.jpg

    - Intel P4 3.2ghz
    - 1GB ram
    - GeForce Go 6800

After I build this one, I'll have 2 spare PC's. Out of the pile of both, I was going to build my g/f a new PC. She's using a crappy ass old vaio notebook right now. She needs to do intense Photoshop work on it, and it simply doesn't cut it.
Once her PC is built, you can have first dibs on the parts.
There should still be enough to build a whole PC. I think even the older PC has a 1.5ghz chip.

    bitmap - thanks!

Yeah, it's defineatly a great rig. It's about 120% faster than my previous setup. Oblivion has gone from 15fps up to 60fps solid. Other games are just as good.
The 7950 has it's problems with some games though. Do does the dual-core chip.
I play World War 2 online for example. That game isn't really optimized for dual-GPU or dual-core CPUs. So I only get around 30-40fps. And it's not a visually impressive game, either. Both of my cpu cores are at a mere 20-30% when playing the game.

So, it just depends on the game, really. But it IS a fast system laugh.gif
  • Pedro Amorim
Vassago whats the diference betwenn the MOBO you bought and the Asus P5W DH? I was thinking of buying this last one.
    What do you think?

Raid0 array is much faster than a single drive. Unless you get a 10,000rpm raptor drive. Which, a 300GB raptor goes for something like $500 or more. It's really over priced.

Raid0 is perfect for gaming and sheer speed. You can have up to (I think) 4 drivers in a Raid0 array.

As for the mobo, I got the P5N32 SLI Deluxe, because it was the only pciX16 SLI board that supported Core2Duo.
