>If nothing else, start making your own titles? even if some Fairy Cousin would pay all the bills while I'm making my title, the fruit is not worth it. They wouldn't behave that way if that was viable. Mic's next step is to buy Steam so that they could just clear the shelf of the competition. Sure, you can sell your stuff on whatever darknet alternative will arise, but it won't make you a living. Most of the indie games that have been released of late haven't even covered the entrance fee, you think some hardcore niche marketplace on crypto will be more profitable?
EVEN IF you become a new McMillan or Kojima, they can just train an AI on your work and roll out a more mass-friendly better-funded alternative. Or just kick you out like Mechner.
I still make builds in my spare time, but I'm done having my livelihood depend on a hobby. Because that's what it is, a hobby. It was fun as a teen, but it was never was a adequate income for a grown man. I'm ashamed it took that long to realize it.

And? You mistake me for someone who's invested in this sphere. A friendly reminder we got documented proof Bobby Kotick came up with lootboxes while doing coke from a minor's tummy at the Epstein's Funny Farm. He's doing great btw. Apparently crab mentality is reminding folks the people they work for will literally leave you to die and won't lose a night's sleep over it unless you fkn make them.
wasn't it Andrew Wilson, not Bobby Two-Horns who brought gatcha over to the western market in the form of lootboxes? And Epic got in touch with Mike Prinke, last I heard that issue was resolved.

I always thought Valve started the lootbox trend in the west with TF2 when they introduced hat cosmetics.
Oh yeah that was the beginning of mainstream micro transactions I thought we were speaking in terms of lootboxes. Prior to Oblivion I don't know how many people played or know of Gunbound but this game had microtransactions as early as 2003
