Hey, I just swapped Modo to Maya and while I was doing UV's and assigning edges I got this shading problem. I'm not great with Maya so I imported the model to Blender but I can't figure out whats the problem. I tried to render smooth and redo hard edges and I checked normals (as in the picture). What I am missing???

The second image with the normals whispers me that you have the vertex normals pointing into different directions.
You will most probably not come away with simply doing a recalculate normals here. Try if using the set Normals from Faces will help here.
I unforutnately just know Blender, and just can provide a Blender shot here. But i guess Maya has similar functionality somewhere. Select everything, Set Normals from Faces ...
