No "3D Artists" Job? Maybe other name?

Hello,

I was looking on the Websites of AAA Studios like Ubisoft for example and i saw there are no 3D Artist searched on like 10 AAA Studios is it because it has an other Name ( I've heard Environment Artist is similar but when i think of Enviroment Artist im thinking of Modelling Trees, Rocks and placing it into the World so its fitting some people say a Level Designer is doing that and some people say it depends on the Studio ) I mean with 3D Artist someone who models for example the Weapons or Props, Textures it and sending it to the Level Designer or Enviroment Artist.

Im a bit confussed i think you can read that out of the Text but i hope you could understand me and help me further.

Greetings,
John

3d artist is like saying "mechanic". It gives an idea what you are doing but isn't a specific job title.

Some studios will have "3d Artists" and they do more or less what you think - props, weapons, sometimes environments - and get shifted between different types of task as needed.

At Triple A studios, a job title that says 3D  Artist is highly unlikely.  They tend to want to hire specialists.

You'd be more apt to find it in smaller or indie studios.

Yes, there are specialists, but mostly only at larger studios.

The more you specialize, the smaller the job market becomes, and the fiercer the competition will be.

Regardless, the market for game artists is saturated. Your portfolio needs to be really good to stand out.

A weapons/hardsurface-only artist is a very small niche. This is attainable, but it is going to be very difficult.

Really, there are no easy paths.

    Precisely.

Irrespective of a particular specialisation, increasing competitiveness is the overarching factor. So aside from the entertainment sector, this also holds true throughout other industries where generally CG based technologies in the past decade or more has seen growth.
