Black spots on mesh - distance field AO?

Hello guys.

I got several objets taht get very ugly black spots, probably something wrong with the distance field AO and I can´t find a way to fix this.
Can you give me some insight on this please?

Does it look like that in another program (to rule out the mesh being the cause)?

Does it look like that in the scene?

Does it mean to have that sort of wavy surface?

Try changing the "Distance Field Bias" or the "Distance Field Resolution Scale"

No, it does not look liek that in Max.
Yes, it looks like that in the scene.
Yes, it is meant to look that wavy, because it is a LOD. The original mesh/ LOD 0 is fine.
I think I aleready played with the distance filed resolution and scale settings, but I will check that when I am back at work.
