Hello,

Hello I am DariusK and this time I am team Abandoned.
Joining this party a bit late but hoping to finish in time. Combining different skill set I am looking to come up with something original for the theme of this competition. Quixel suite & Marmoset are extremely great and useful tools, that I am looking forward to get good use of. I'll be trying to achieve rough/tough/hand assembled forms. As for the software mainly we I will be working in 3D Studio Max, MODO, Photoshop ( of course

) and ZBrush.

Some quick ideas, not sure if we going to proceed in this look but something of a direction search. You can see by sketches that buggy is more or less is settled ( so sketches a rough ) but the other vehicle is still in a design progress ;] though you guys would be interested.
any crits or comments are welcomed.

Looks really great, almost too detailed. Are you concerned at all with getting it done within the timeframe of the contest at that detail level?

Yeah I am concerned about getting it done in time. I hope we will make it, I have more stuff done just showing some parts that are 100% finished. So hopefully we will have enough time to flush it out in Quixel and Marmoset ;]

Glad to hear you've got more done than you're showing here. One other small concern is that while it looks nice in the render here and I'm sure its accurate to your refs, some of your edges may be too tight to show up well in the final bakes.

Yes I agree on the bake thing. You could say its my first encounter with 3D model going further than just Hi poly ;] so lots of things to learn on the way. My work is keeping me busy these days so yeah can;t spend too much time on this as much as I would like to ;] but moving forward!!!

Here is a finished Low Poly on a side turret for the vehicle. Simple rendering no materials still have to unwrap it ;]

can anyone help me out figure what I am doing wrong with my bake?

everything appear as low poly.. its my first ever attempt to bake so yeah. I read a lot of articles and o but I guess I missed smth.

i gues your mesh is not smoothed, depending where you are working, you need to apply soft edges or smoothing groups on your model.
if you realy have never done it before, it might be worth heading over to the polycount wiki.

The biggest problem here is that you don't have enough sides to your cylinders, which makes it look lowpoly. Probably 16 sides for the smaller holes and 24-32 sides for the large hole would look a lot better.

Hei guys I have a question.
What happens to the object if they are not unwrapped but are in the OBJ file?
and If my object looks the same in Low and Hi poly is it ok to bake it like it is? or should I hi up the subdivision level on it anyway?

Not sure if i understand your question right, the high poly does not have to be unwraped, only the low poly one. You should definetaly high up the subdivision on the hipoly so you get some smoother edges for the higpoly, otherwise it does not make sense to bake at all if both are identical. The low poly should not be subdivided and then brought back to the lower subdivision level ,you will mess up the normal map gradients this way.

Hmm is there a way to make maps for low poly? without hi poly version?
And what i was trying to say is that if i have a low poly model and i have screws that i don't want to be in uv map if I don't unwrap them, but they will be in a baking process what happens to them? So in short if my screws look same in low and hi poly should I still subdivide them just for sake of it?

Since I am not such a good unwrapped or baker I still finished my vehicle in a different method. So i thought I would share it with you guys.
To all who got to the finals you guys are amazing it is really an art to make good unwraps and bakes ;] not talking about modeling ;]
