Hello forum!
Since I finally got some time on my hands to work on personal projects and studies I decided to start a sketchbook here. It will be both 2D and 3D and the styles will vary.
Critique are always super-welcome, especially if it is constructive. And feel free to ask if you are curious about my methods or anything else.

Here's a speedpaint of scared looking fencer, was about 25 min. And some thumbs with pen and markers with three values. The thumbs are drawn from the game Dragon's Dogma
I like the thumbs!
I like the feel you're going for in the fencer sketch, but it was a little difficult interpreting his expression until you said specifically that he was anxious/nervous. His left hand reads a little strangely, perhaps the anatomy is not in perspective correctly and I'm not sure of the gesture he's making. Maybe you could exaggerate his expression in his eyes and brow a tad to make it more obvious? The foreshortening on the right arm looks pretty solid, but the foil could use some work. Maybe the reference looks close, but I'd expect the "blade" part to be closer to the center of the sword. (Sorry for my awful lack of technical knowledge)
The thumbs looks tasty! I think its a good idea to sketch out thumbs from games, especially ones with such nice environments like in Dragon's Dogma. But I'd definitely suggest embellishing to give them a little more spice and visual interest. The thumbs with the craggy rocks, the courtyard, and Gran Soren in the background look pretty good in that department, but for the others, definitely embellish. EDIT: I also just wanted to say really quickly that the line quality and consciousness to weight in the last thumbnail is delicious, I'm in love with it.

I think you are right about the thumbs, some of them don't communicate the mood they are supposed to. When you say "embellish" Do you mean just to put in more time/work/love in each of them?
Loving the work on the sculpt so far! I really admire your handle on anatomy and control of the surface. When I work on sculpts my surface is always super rough and lacks a lot of refinement and control. Got any tips for a beginner?
The only thing that sticks out is the anatomy of the joints in the fingers (Primarily the pointer finger?)--they seem a tiny bit too far up. Thats super small and everything else seems really solid. Though I'd love to see those feet close up.
I'm looking forward to your costuming direction, it could really go anywhere. Did you have anything in mind you'd like to try?
My tip would be to always keep sub-division levels to a very minimum. And make sure to squeeze the most out of every level before stepping up. And even when you have stepped up, some things are best done by stepping down again for a while. Hope it makes sense :P
Ah, thanks for noticing the finger gonna work on them now ^^ My first idea was to make some sort of Lara Croft-ish adventurer, but now I got this idea of a modern day contract killer. We'll see :P

The rocks on the right seem to be a bit weird. I know they are not the selling point but I'd try breaking up the ripple-like lines a bit.

First the plan was to make him bleeding but I settled for a broken heart lol :P
But I think the roof of the main building could use some different color, right now there's so much green (and yellow/brown) that it's a little hard to see the focuspoint. That edgestones are really catching attention, maybe you should think of pushing the roofs color a little more toward a red-brownish color. Just a suggestion!

It's a topic generator for coming up with topics for speedpainting.

Me and some colleagues at work were using the 3CH generator, wich is great, but we were put of by the fact that the formula for the topics were set in stone. So I decided to try some programming and with some help from my colleagues Boxkitty's topicgenerator was born!
This is how it works:
1, tic one or many boxes. The boxes represent complexities of the topic sentence. If you only tic one box, your topic will be generated with that category. If you tic more then one box, it will be random.
2, press the big button to let Boxkitty generate the topic for you! Great for those lunch speedpainting sessions! The text in front of the actual topic ("complex 3/3" in the picture below) is just a debug feature that I have left in for now. It just says that the topic was generated from the "complex" category and that out of three formulas in that category, you got the third one.
Now download, paint and edit the generator if you so wish. Adding/removing words are as easy as editing a text file. I also left the wip psd's in the download if you wanna place your own backgrounds and so on. Some of the words used are carried over straight from 3CH and the rest are new.

We're going for a NES-look and I'm not really happy with it yet... Something is a bit off, I'm guessing a few colors are to saturated and also, atm I'm using more then 16 colors on screen at once *_* Please let me know I you get something to say/criticise
I think what makes it look less like NES graphics is your tasteful choice of color and design haha. Especially the characters I think.
