[Dota2] Doom Bringer Tainted Seals

Hey polycount people; I'm pretty exited about this contest im gonna try to do my best here. Ill be working with a co-worker of mine who is making the concepts for the item set we had in mine while i work with everything else.
The idea behind this armor set: He broke the seventh seal of the end of days, and as a results the lives of all sinners were absorbed into him. He is a walking apocalypse and wears the broken seals to send a message to his mutilators in heaven that nothing can stop him.

Here is an update towards the concept and the silhouettes of the model of the shoulders, belt and part of the bracer. Did some changes on the color scheme to break off the original. Crits and comments welcomed.

Another update here on the concept finalized bracers concept and the lev 0.

probably gonna start on the helm next or start testing on the binding so i know it loads in game alright. also any advise for the uploading process is greatly appreciated since its my first time actually trying it out hopefully it wont be too difficult. Have a nice day.

asking for a lil help but im trying to test out importing the shoulder armor into the game and when it finally got accepted the armor is floating above the character almost out of the screen. does anybody have any idea how i can fix this im pretty much out of my element here. thanks for the help

Their is an issue with the importing files at least I had issues with It.
Someone posted a helpful guide in the pimping part of the DOTA2 Workshop thread.

Basically just get the SMD importer here:
1. wunderboy PROPS!
2. Import as you normally would then xform scale your object to fix back into place
3. reset your Pivot to 0,0,0
4. Skin to bones you need, export both shoulder/pauldrons and the bones you skinned them to .fbx
5. selecting options:
[x]smooth groups
[x]tangents and
[x]triangulate

Export button, DOTA2 process.

I'll also post the direct link to how i got it to work from the original poster.

Really digg the new color pallet your working into the character! Overall nice clean big shapes, which suit the game and character. Not 100% sold on the detail work. It might get a bit to noisy. But wont judge until you have a more final state of it. And then its just my own preference.

Looks great, but all that detail is going to get lost. Try broader shapes for better readability.

Thanks you @$!nz for the link. I checked it out but it seems its focused on 3ds max, i use maya though but ive been looking for a maya plugin for that, yet no luck on that and equivalent instructions but heres hoping i find something.

@DanBe and @KICKER thanks for the advise guys. I thought this might be a problems so its gonna take me a while to rework the details on the texture but at least add the base colors of it for now.

unfortunately i made some mistakes with the poly count so i need to rework geometry since i was looking at face count and not tri count *epic facepalm. Really hope i make it to the deadline though

@$!nz thanks man totally forgot about this i only watched it for the mask 1 and 2 textures part I thought the rest was the usual till this exporting problem happened.

This is the final look of the actual concept but some of the smaller details might get omitted since it might not appear because of the small texture sizes

Hey guys posting some progress on how the models import in the game. The bracer and shoulder went in alright , but i keep getting the import of the belt all messed up, not sure why. Any ideas?

Reset Xform
collapse
set pivot 0,0,0
re-skin
export with bone

Give that a shot, looks good btw, your using maya, so alternative from max, I don't know what those would be.

wrong order $!nz, you want to set the pivot to the origin, reset Xform, and collapse to it (by placing it between the mesh layer and UV modifier/skin modifier). Then export.

If you reset and then move the pivot, the reset is pointless.

Sry man tried to help i wouldn't know what the prob is, happen to my shoulder but somehow it fixed It's self. Maybe try Star's process? I'm out of it this week so, sry I couldnt help.

I tweaked a few fbx export settings and it fixed itself right up actually used the settings from this link.

The Geometry looks great, and it matches the concept quite well, but I'm a little worried about the severe lack of color.

I liked the original design (post 1) because it was great styling while adhering to the base colors. Personally, I would use a higher saturation and brighter shade on the super-dark red and keep the rest as is. But currently the metal styling is lost to the lack of contrast with the material beneath it.

I have to agree with Spudnik, I like the shape and design, but the patterns get a bit lost. Maybe it is the compression of the picture that creates all the extra confusion. Anyway, I would chose the right pic for the shoulders.

As for the belt, does the hanging piece of cloth move?

Actually its not cloth its another metal piece. About the compression at some point i started editing the textures on the actual size for the requirements, 256x256 instead of a bigger one and then resizing, maybe that's why its looking a bit blurry.

Finally finished the geometry for the Helm and did some export test with some blocked out textures to see if everything dropped in properly and don't see anything wrong with it so last thing to work on is helm textures. hope to hear what you guys think.

I really dig it man, but I feel the helm is too saturated red. I thought I'd doodle just to suggest an alternate, though I think simply desaturating it a little (at least towards the base) and have the color ramp as it gets towards the tips alone would help.

Heres a colored version on the picked concept for the sword. Was thinking how it might look with the default effects the doombringer sword has in-game, so made a red hot version and the other lit on fire to have an idea of what it might look like.
