So yeah, I'm gonna check it out.
And that promotion is awesome. I think I would have made it, but I would have just slammed right into a lot of that. Like the guys with the glass window, or those two joggers.
neat stuff.
glottis, that is fucking cool. Beat the first one. dont have time to finish the rest. ill try again later.
I beat the first one as well... 2 tries to get the right approach. I like it so far. The second one seems more intense.
(My name wont be in the credits, but the company I contract at should be.)
just came from the cinema, loved it! soo much better than quantum, maybe that's partly why it comes off so well, but it's packed full of great imagery, locations, sets, and ideas. very satisfied with the movie. Javier rocks, just the right level of menace, creepiness and humour
there are a few holes you could pick at if you're so inclined, like
Other thnigs:
- Moneypenny was hot
- No way he could bone the Asian by simply stepping into her shower
- Putting a towel on the shot-agent at the beginning was srs 'stablizing him' procedure
- Chase scene was a letdown
- When Bond was operating the fork-machine on the train, he got shot. The guy had the upper-ground, being armed, and Bond was helpless. Yet, when Bond steps out of the machine to the open, we see the guy left his winning position and was even taken by surprise when Bond came up behind him. Oh please.. too easy!
Casino Royal was fantastics. Le Chiffre posed a real mental challange to Bond, not only in the poker but also when he got captured & tortured. In Skyfall the same thing happened, the capturing, the girl and her being played as as a card by the villian, but it didn't seem to care to Bond. There was no depth to the relationships
Shotgun:
-yes!
-yeah, I thought the same
-That was the point, he couldn't stabilize the guy because M was ordering him on.
-the opening one? I loved it! Motorcross bikes over ancient turkish roofs!
-yeaahhh. Im glad they made the bullet wound a big thing, because it felt like a big deal that he got hit, but it probably should have happened later in that scene.
I think it had more depth than you give it credit for: (huge spoilers)
I thought the main plot with the bad guy was entertaining, but so disjointed and full of holes it made no fucking sense. Like why he had such a roundabout way of capturing M if he was so capable and had so many inside men. But I never noticed this in the film, because there was the M/bond plot tying things together. Alot of the film is about Bond feeling betrayed by M but going back to help protect her. This is important because, as it is revealed, He couldn't 'protect' his parents at skyfall. Given that he joined the service at such a young age, M has become a mother figure to him, (I don't think they needed wossisname to be yelling MOTHER! at the end of the film like a psycho to hammer that one in. Bit dumb.) This is why he takes her to skyfall manor as well.
Still it was a bit contrived. the whole 'lets go to a remote location with no backup and invite the bad guys over' did not strike me as a sound plan at any point. wtf.
This is so stereotypically bond, of course it's unrealistic but it just fits.
Adele Music is alright, a bit more "Bond", but thats because its nearly exactly like Diamonds are forever!
Villian was really good.
kinda knew M would die about halfway through and I also knew Ralph would be stepping in. Something gave it away but, I knew.
Q........ the super intelligent, cocky as fuck kid, thinking he's the brainiest shit on the block..... plugs the villians (who we already know is a computer wiz) laptop into the entire network and not a secure "off the grid" system and thinks it'll be fine. Coz i'm the greatest ever...... "uh oh, we've been hacked".............. FIRED! go and empty your desk. Then go back to your old job acting on the IT crowd.
Yeah, plan to hole up in an empty castle was a bit silly as well
All in all though. Excellent! go see it.
Skyfall is a terrific Bond movie and Mendes has delivered a very good and well made movie. Roger Deakin's photography is excellent and the talents of Alexander Witt as 2nd Unit Dir, and Stuart Baird as Editor are also visible too.
Skyfall is certainly better than Quantum of Solace, but at the same time I don't believe QoS is that bad. It's just a different context. QoS looks kinda rushed and unfinished (you have to watch it directly after Royale for it to work. QoS is basically Casino Royale Pt2), whereas Skyfall seems to have a more crafted feel to it.
I think the reason for this is the gap between the films. Royale appeared 4 years after Brosnan bowed out on the poor Die Another Day (the franchises 40th anniversary), and immediately looked fresher. QoS was only 2 years after Royale and was lacking. Skyfall has come 4 years from QoS and it really shows. The longer gap (studio troubles aside) has really allowed the producers to spend more time on development. The script feels more snappy, well tuned and with better pacing. There's also been alot more previs produced as well, which really helps the set pieces.
The plot and story is wafer thin, and became predictable for me, but the film compensates that by presenting and delivering it well. Craig is good and feels more relaxed after his difficult second 'album' QoS. Dench is very good and though I haven't liked her that much recent movies, she's good here. It was good to see a little more of Rory Kinnear's character Tanner, he's a fine actor and I hoped he would be used more. Whishaw's debut of Q is understated but also well done. Fiennes, Harris and Finney, very good all round.
Which brings me to Javier Bardem.....is he a good actor - yes, is he a good villan - yes, is he the right villan for this Bond movie - I'm not sure. A good performance yes, slightly comedic and camp in places, but I didn't quite grasp the credibility of his background. Not when you look at Sean Beans character in Goldeneye or Carlyle in TWINE. I think those characters would of been a slightly better fit for Skyfall.
My only other minor gripe in turns of characters, was that it would of been good to of seen something of Jeffrey Wright's broody Felix Leiter (he was great in Royale and QoS).
Having heard alot of Adele's song, I initially thought that it was kinda ok, but nothing special, but it's definitely a grower and like all Bond songs, works better in the context. Thomas Newman's score is very good, it's snappy at times with touches of Bourne, but well done. John Barry said that if ever got himself into trouble you can always fall back on the Bond motif, and Newman also uses this at the right times.
Being the 50th anniversary of Bond, there's always expectations among fans of in-jokes and references to previous movies. Die Another Day tried the same, but at times they shoehorned too much. Skyfall has plenty, some obvious, some more cryptic but the balance is right.
Overall a very well made and accomplished Bond movie. I'm gonna hold back from the 'best Bond ever' tag, as I think its a term that gets waved too easily. You can't really compare Skyfall to the other movies, as with the Bonds they're about the era they're made. Royale and QoS were Bonds of the noughties, but Skyfall is definitely a Bond for 2010s.
Goldfinger was where all the pieces and formula that we have come to know from the Bond movies and franchise, finally came together to make the recipe. Skyfall does seem like the Goldfinger for the audience of today.
The colors and shots in Shanghai were gorgeous.
Tokyo?
My mistake. Shanghai.
not really sure actually why he needed to go via underground, why not just sort of, sneak into London like the agent that he is. He did want a chance to talk to M one last time so that could be the actual motivation

On the torch thing, you have to remember that the grounds keeper was probably in shock too, he would usually use a torch at night so automatically used one when they were escaping?
Faaaairly sure that's been the point of Bond for all of it's 50 years. These aren't chicks he's gonna be taking home to mom. The relationships that mattered, showed.
I have to say tho, that Javier Bardems character didn't quite make the memorable villain that i was hoping he was going to be.
BUT WATCH IT ON THE BIG SCREEN! so many colors, so pretty. I still stick with Casino Royale being the best one so far.
Doh
I mean the relationships between the characters, not the sex-relationships
When the villain showed his deformation and confronted 'mother' ... that was the end of that part. Could have been so much more!
When the Asian was put to 'trial' ... who cared?
Despite all of the villain's prowess, he died from a ... ? come on. There was no mental confrontation. He was just an obsessed goon. Considering Bardem's acting ability, it was a missed opportunity, IMO
Moneypenny's action at the beginning of the movie could have been played out where Bond would have been put to a similar test against her or something, I dunno. Everything was good, at its essence, just wasn't 'exploited' all the way
Also, are the London underground THAT on time. like within 5 seconds of the explosion there's a train.
But. he knew bond would be stood there right? He planned it. So why didn't he put the explosives where bond stood?...not very brainy
I would have to argue that yes this was the best Bond film yet in my opinion as it was the most "believable", especially after Brosnan's escapades.
Quick question...
I don't know why me and my crush laugh so hard at this scene.
