ZBrush - Holes through Dynamesh?

Was wondering if there was any other way (apart from Subtract mesh) to creates holes in a mesh via DM?

I tried masking out an area and creating a poly group. Hid and deleted hidden poly group. Even if you mirror your tool, it will still create a plate (2 planes) in the middle-- (even if they're overlapping)whenever you re DM or close holes.
Of course you have the option to use shadow box, but I'm guessing your asking with regards to a more complex piece of geometry.
The dirtiest solution I currently found is overlapping the planes as you mentioned, but it takes several tries to get it correct (EI: they must be really close and almost thin) eventually, after a few tries the mesh will start getting holes, but it takes a while to get them, hence why I was hoping to find a more direct solution.
