I hope this game sees a release and all of these talented artists get paid. Im not sure where these problems came from but I hope the studio stabilizes and whoever drove the company into the ground is replaced or held responsible.
Well. I will be honest. Hope they find new jobs, but KoA was just crap. And their upcoming mmo, look no better. Unforunetly. Time I heard the MMO won't have combat system from KoA was last time I was intrested with it.
It's look like yet another go take 387 quests push three button, and grind more mmo. Sorry, this forumla was burned out 4 years ago already.
It's a shame to see this happening to a studio filled with massive talent and such great potential. Hope everything works out for all of the employees who've been busting ass.
not really the most sensitive place to complain about gameplay is it?
keeping fingers crossed things work out ok for the team
Kingdoms of amalur aside:
The new project looks fantastic, but unless they really rethink the formula, they're in for another dangerous project and it risks peoples jobs, yet again.

I'm not master of development planning, but if they want to release game in next year, there is no time to change anything. Unfortunetly Project Copernicus will not stand a chance to Guild Wars 2 and PlanetSide 2. Maybe even ArcheAge. It just doesn't have it gimmick features from what we know. Guild Wars 2 is action based PvP game with dynamic PvE, Planetside 2 is MMOFPS (really nothing can compete with it, real time warfare simulator), and ArcheAge is almost fully fledged sandbox mmo.
MMOs lives by it's features, graphics is theriatry thing.
Waiting till they annouce more features. But without action combat nothing will drag me into.
I'm far from telling it looks fantastic. It looks like yet another MMO that come from MMO generator ;/.
The situation itself is super weird / crazy and I don't think this has happened within the industry before, or on this great of scale. I'm hoping it can all blow over, but the amount of money they have owed / will need to owe near the end of the year is scary.
I'm hoping everyone at 38 studios gets through this with as little scrapes and bruises as possible.
Sadly not that many artist positions (just Character and UI) but we do have openings in other positions like producer, cinematic artist, and designers!
Yeah, this is just awful to watch this continue to unravel. I hope things get worked out somehow. The artwork I've seen so far looks incredible. At least, the artists should have something to show.
Iniside: I can't believe how insensitive you are being. These people are potentially losing their jobs. Show some respect.
I wish the best to everyone at 38 and I hope no one has to look for a job elsewhere. But if so, I know many people might see Mobile as a step down, but we are hiring on ALL FRONTS at Backflip Studios. (New website eventually) http://www.backflipstudios.com/jobs . Great place to work in beautiful Bouldler, Colorado. We currently have the #1 top grossing app and it's stayed around the top 5 for the last 8 months.
The good thing about mobile is that, unlike AAA dev, you don't have all your eggs in one basket so a misfire won't sink your ship.
Its true 38 was great everyone was fantastic. I will miss the all the artist there. If anyone has a chance to swipe some of the artist from 38 you wont regret it!
That being said if any one needs a character artist hit me up.
I can confirm this. We shut down today, best wishes to all the folks in RI and the rest of the team here in Baltimore, things are gonna be hairy for a little while. May post an art dump in the PnP in a few days once everything blows over. Till then I wish everyone the best.

Hey man, we're looking for a character artist over here. If you want, I can pass your stuff over to our Art Directors.
That goes for anyone else too. If you got a portfolio, PM me and I'll pass it along to the right people.
this makes me a sad panda. I loved Reckoning and I was looking forward to their Copernicus project. So much talent there. Hope everyone lands a cool gig after this.
Yup we all got layed off. Tons of talented people looking for work... *cough* including myself, so if you have an environment art spot open let me know.
I'll forward any info onto the engineers and designers too.
Hopefully I'll get clearance to post screenshots in PnP, this game was really too beautiful to not get seen.

I know Ubi Montreal is hiring for my project and others as well, need enviro/world artists if you are interested in relocating to one of the actually booming gaming hubs in north america right now.PM me your info if you are interested! best of luck to everyone, really sucks to hear.
Infinity Ward is looking for a couple of environment artists right now though and also a prop artist. If you're interested, send me a PM. Good luck to everyone.
What kills me about this is that the management and operators of 38 knew the situation and kept the employees in the dark then didn't pay them and basically pulled their insurance out from under them all while making that million dollar+ payment to Rhode Island on the loan that will surely be defaulted on.
Here is an idea. Take that money and pay your employees with it and tell them that unfortunately this is it and close doors.
Take care of your family first... Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth...
Well now that I'm a little more free to talk about this Jesse. The million dollar + payment that went to Rhode Island was in assurance we would receive the tax credits of 8 million. We even had buyers lined up for the credits and the government was sitting there telling us "You give us the million, we give you the tax credits."
We gave them the million. They did not give us the tax credits, which would've not only payed the employees, but saved the studio most likely as we had several publishing deals in the works. The government flat out lied to us (big surprise).
I don't fault upper-managemenet too much, they've actually been pretty open about what's going on and really thought the studio was going to pull through this. They've even been allowing us access to the building to obtain as many assets as we need to build our portfolios back up. I'm sure the full story will eventually come out.
It's just so bizarre to me to think that they were getting state funding... especially for a game studio where you can't just go pick 450 people in the area and hire them on to help with the unemployment situation happening over there. Seems like a bad business decision on both ends.
