Starting to beef up my portfolio with this Jumper Mech I found on cghub.com.

Here's the concept by the amazing Soren Bendt Pedersen. I really love his concepts and visual language.

Looking like a good start!

I would seriously rework the legs though, they look really thin and flimsy, imo they need to be more beefy, as in the concept.

It absolutely looks like it could be in hawkens! I think that's why i wanted to make it. Love the design and atmosphere of that whole world!

Thanks guys. Yeah I'll have to do some beefing up of the legs. I'm actually seeing a lot of proportion issues the more i look at it.

Cool stuff, I really like the details, not too noisy and the forms read well, and it looks like the legs would be functional.

looking really good so far! the details are coming out awesome, but i think the overall proportions are a bit off from the concept, the last segment of the leg before the foot, looks a bit shorter in the concept and the feet look a decent bit bigger, might want to take another look. like i said tho the details are coming out ace!

Alittle bit of an update. Finished up the legs, adjusted the proportions and beefed up that knee joint and feet. Still have some proportion issues but i'm just going to wait until the bake to adjust them.

I'm liking how it's coming together for sure. I can't wait to get to the texturing on this guy.

Jesse: Yeah I used the at st as reference for the back detail on the leg. It's pretty safe to say you'll find something star wars in everything i do haha.

N88tr: I'd like to, but my concepting skills aren't very strong. I'll ask the guy who concepted this mech to see if he has anytime to create a weapons attachment for it.

Dunno why it reminds me of those walking leg mechs from MGS4.

I do agree with not too noisy on the details for the mech. The needed detail is there for it

Added some detail to the gun attachment device on teh front of the mech. That was actually alot of fun to make.

Finished up the Highpoly this weekend. Took a break from it for a couple weeks to work on some soft surface sculpting, but getting back into it. Going to start the lowpoly tonight.

Thanks guys! I finished the Low poly and about 90% done with the unwrap.

I really want one of the animators at work to take a run with him, i can see some pretty awesome animations coming from this guy. Like a hover idle, or walk cycle. Just something small and fun.

I'll post up the Lowpoly shots this week.

Baked and ready for texturing. Sorry for such harsh black shadows. It's rendered in 3ds max so those will go away on the final render when i put it in UDK.

Still WIP. Taking another pass at the texture, going to add more dirt towards the feet, more blast marks in the back of the engines, and more decals overall.

Looks really great but the colour seems a little light and pastel to me which looks to be hiding a lot of the detail in the texture, maybe a darker paint colour so you can see the scratches ect?

Gorgeous model !

i agree with Sneakymcfox about scratches and paint being too similar in color.
Darker paint , or maybe an halo of primer coat between the 2? (but that's always hard to do without messing up and making it all less realistic and painterly)
I'll follow the next steps of texturing with interest..

this is really good, I think you could do a lot more with the texture though, maybe some sort of digitalized camo and a few more colours would do it wonders

Excellent man! I really dig this and it makes me want to play Mechwarrior II again

I really like the desaturated look. Personally I find it more realistic than too much color being used.
It kinda gives it that mid-afternoon in the city smog feel, which really suits the models base and its color scheme.

Cool, I'd try to get a bit more contrast in your image though, If it's UDk try using the cinematic tonemapper in post processing.
Also, perhaps my personal preference, but I'd have added some more decals and signs to it, perhaps even a bold color with a unit logo or something..
