I'm considering going to the one here in LA, in early july, but heard it's full of weirdo's and idiots. Anyone here have positive experiences with the expo?

I'm freaking over comic-con, like ... I don't even wanna start.

I've only been to Gamesday Baltimore which is all Gamesworkshop stuff and PAX East - Gamesday reaked of nerd stink but PAX seemed to have a pretty beefy airconditioning setup so it wasn't bad.

I went to Otakon a couple years ago in Baltimore. Depending on the type of expo, the ratio of weirdos to normal people will vary. The only thing you have to consider is how comfortable you are with having your personal space encroached upon by Sephiroths and Pokemen.

At least with it being in LA, there's a higher probability of hot women dressing up as anime sluts, instead of their normal slut attire.

I've been to one quite a few years ago but that was back when it was in Anaheim. It was pretty fun although there were quite a few weirdos. There were interesting panels though though and sometimes seeing new animes before they get released is also fun.

I do remember some interesting workshops though like leather armor work and stuff. If you look hard enough you might be able to find some good artbooks to buy but i would say the merchandise area is hit or miss. Most of the stuff is super expensive unless your one of the first ones there.

Artist Alley also can have a lot of good art.

I was actually wondering if there was any of these kind of events in Europe (or more, UK), they all seem to be in the US :/

Tons (if anything, too many). London MCM Expo (http://www.londonexpo.com/) is in a month. Would be going myself, but I'm doing the Bristol Comic Con the weekend before.

Been to anime Expo a few times since like 2004.
One year I fucking made a badass Metro cop outfit with a sillicone mask I custom made....
That was definitely a low point for me.
But the dances are always nice, my friend is DJ this year so im probably gonna go try to find someone who will give me their pass (Worked at Blizzcon)

Been to a bunch and also worked at a friends booth for a number of years. Yeah, you get a bunch of weird ass people but I've never really minded it I guess. Most my friends that go are the "normal" people. We like anime but we're not crazy and we bathe regularly. You'll be safe from nerd stink on Friday usually. After that though...ugh. Stay away from any gaming room they have set up, seriously. You'll get people that have been playing DDR for three days with no shower. One con I went to had it in their rules that if you smelled offensive they could boot you from the con and strip you of your badge.

Also, be careful if looking at someones wares at a booth. People will lean past you if there's little space and you'll get nerd pit stain heading straight for your shoulder.

Actually, I advised a friend of mine to go to a Con with a Gasmask on, and he borrowed mine.

He didn't like to cosplay, and I'm too busy to attend one, so I told him even if he doesn't cosplay, wearing a nice big breezy overall, and a gasmask will make wonders in comfort.

Many joked on how he looked like a cheap Pyro, but hey, at least he smelled nice at the end of the day, didn't have his nads castrated with tight pants.

Not that I would know anything about that...
