First Next Gen character

I've done some creatures before but this will be my first complete human character. Originally I was working on a bust, but I decided to finish it as my portfolio really needs it. A lot of this is going to be learning as I go as I'm not entirely sure of the process for some things like low poly hair.

I'm not sure what the main theme behind her is but I figured I would go for the body and decide after that. Aiming for a thick fitness body type.

I would really appreciate you guys going to town and tear up any mistakes you see. I want to push this one as far as I can.

Here's my first pass at the body.

and this was the initial head I started with. Still have to make it fit the body better.

I'm not an expert, but for me it look like guy with tits ;p. Nor woman nor men. You need to work on proportions, or just get model let's say from MakeHuman and just see how it's done there.

But if we consider it's alien, then it's good start

harsh but fair crit, I guess it all depends if your going for a barbie doll or a more 'stylisted' female. As women go, they are usually a slender form. I guess more work is planned, so best wait to see where you go from here. ( Face is also a little masculine )

U've got the 2 main masses right, which is the most important thing. The boobs do need to sit more naturally on the torso. The proportions r indeed off, just use a ref... (wrists should go down to hips, elbows to the end of the torso and knees should be lower). Also the elbow should be more prominent as the inner end of the homerus protrudes towards the body.

I'm using reference with kind of manly features (not trannys I swear :poly136:).

the woman you're using for body reference is probably a bad idea tbh, her tits and legs both look kind of fucked, like they've had surgery on them or something, it will probably throw off the purpose of using them as anatomical reference (unless of course, in all seriousness, you are trying to make a hot woman and you find that kind of body hot, in which case, do what ya like!).

The face you have here is off to a great start! Make the chin a little narrower as well
as the jaw (under her ears). That supermodel your using for the body is wrong. She is
pushing herself to look sexy for the photo. She's trying not to have a fat stomach so
she has lifted her shoulders up. She also has really big quads! I wish I had quads as
strong as hers LOL! You are doing an excellent job copying and translating this to your
sculpt. Just keep checking back and forth between the two as you have been doing. I
recommend getting some more reference though, especially the body.

By the looks of it, the lower body, starting from where the waist flares out, is far too small compared to the upper body. Try scaling it up a bit.

I totally agree with the proportions. I've tried using some more references so hopefully it fills out better. Trying to keep to a Chun li type of body. Still got lots of work to go!

Hope nobody minds my little updates. I'd just like to see if I'm headed in the right direction rather than finding out a month later I took a wrong turn and fell off a cliff.

I think I may have exaggerated the hips too much though?

I think the quads still look quite manly, other than that its shaping up quite nicely. Maybe take a look at the back of the shoulder area as well, it looks a bit funny..

cool bro, good progress. the chick in the ref is built like a brick shithouse. that is going to make it hard for something we know is fake to seem real b/c the real thing hardly looks real, if that makes any sense.

in the last post, she looks scaled down, somewhat dwarfish. i would just scale that girl vertically and she might look more believable?

i would also split her calfs so they look like two groups, since this girl has def been hittn the weights, she should have two distinct forms going on in her calfs.

Mask those quads, then invert the mask, and then ctrl and tap the model, to
soften the mask out and use the move transpose tool, to scale em down. Also
turn off x symmetry when you do it. and then smart resymm it all once you
have the one side done.

Nice work so far its shaping up I see. As others said the quads still are massive. Something that stands out to me is in the side view it looks like her breasts are too low or arms to high? She looks well built, as in going to the gym alot. Some muscle groups need to be adjusted a little to get the right look.

I may have got too caught up in the forms and forgot about the proportions. I'll rework them today. The calves definitely need work, too!

I'm using references of fitness models and Chun li so the quads are going to be pretty big. I think the toughest part is balancing it so it looks stylized rather than an anatomy mistake.

Put the head on the body and realized she looked like a midget so I tweaked some of the proportions. I was thinking some kind of tight future suit for her clothing, but I'm not sure yet. I really want to nail the anatomy then I'll do some pantovers.

The head is just placed for now.

I did a little paint over. Noodled around too much, maybe to the point where its not even helpful.
I'm not the greatest with characters. There's definitely some errors in my method as well but, hope it helps in someway.
Perhaps someone with more experience will come put me to shame.

Make her head a bit smaller, right now it looks like if she was a midget or just as tall as 5.0 or something like that..
I also feel that her legs are too short, check out some Female body references to match the proportions better.

Her neck feels a bit scrunched up still. If you look at build's paintover, it looks more natural.

Overall, it's making good progression.

Good progress, one thing I still see that I forgot to point out is her breasts are looking a bit off...? I'm not a breast expert lol, but Ive seen enough to think they need some more roundness like towards the bottom there just not sitting quite right. I saw how they were in your early posts and you fixed them somewhat, just needs a little more.

Can't seem to stop tweaking this. Every time I look at it I see something else I can work on. I'll get to the armor sometime this year hopefully haha

Its not a bad thing that you keep tweaking things because this stage is very important, you need to have the anatomy right before you add all the armor and accessories. Alot of times I see characters where the anatomy is off but details are being added and sculpting on high levels. Fingers still look odd from the side view I can see. What is your plan for the this character?

awwww yea gurrrl. Now shes looking hot, good job. I think the chin still needs some help, its very pronounced and masculine right now. try bringing the bottom of the chin up closer to the lips a tiny bit and scaling the sides of the chin outward to make the face rounder. When sculpting feminine features try and make things flow well and think soft. By doing this the cheek bones won't be so prominent and masculine looking. If you need some reference google search adriana lima, she should help you out a lot. Keep up the good work!

Can anyone give me some tips on how to make low poly hair? I have a bunch of the links bookmarked, but I don't really know how to even start it. I just extrdue planes from the head and move points around? It seems like that would be really tedious. Is there any other way to go about it?

Great face, honestly, you made the face look way better than your reference, in my opinion. Body, I have to say, is still a bit wonky. Kinda reminds me of over-the-top female superhero look now. If that's what you're going for, than spot-on!

But I'm personally not too keen on the over-done superhero look. But, to each their own I suppose.
