You know thats not real? right Muzz? It's magic, John Carmack has invented magic. I for one bow to our new magical overlord and welcome his libertarian, Tire clad future.
I agree. Diety-like powers do not exsist with no normal, mortal man. No, no, no. The only logical answer is magic. Is...is this all powerful wizard of oz the reason why iphone users get laid more?
I bet everything was baked but it still looks awesome. Also you can get away with using smaller textures on smaller screens like that. The only 'real-time' lighting in that demo were the animated spot shadows under the character models.
Still nice. I mean, smart phone gaming is the wave of the future right?
Hmmmm the environment could all be emissive only, so texture memory and rendering that wouldn't be that, nore would the performance cost be that high. Add in s light where needed that only lights the characters and has no shadows. Well done, and i see why he said it was just a testbed for his tech. Any real gaming would show it for what it is very quick.
I recognize that it probably is all flat textures and not much in terms of dynamic lighting, still doesn't make it any less impressive especially if you have ever worked with iphone tech.
i see overexposed light, that means the lightmap capable
to brighten the default texture value ? ( either overlay or add blending_)
btw i dont think environment need normal map before it the capability of interacting with shadow and dynamic moving light or specular.
unique texture is good, but see if this can be push even further : texture streaming. like they did in Rage
which is whats hot from ID software engine now
It's hard to imagine how John Carmack could be more awesome. He's living the dream, is totally into the job, goes to massive lengths to share technology, and support it.

Wahlgren: they're dropping the middlewear market. Carmack allready mentioned releasing id4 as opensource. id5 is their current Gen and as such they need to do what makes them money. Carmack mentioned in the keynote that Zenimax are pretty cool about his opensource 'stiffy' (as he put it in the readme for his port of doom to linux )
I'm glad idtech 5 is so great, although after they announced that they won't be licensing it to anyone; I don't see the point in getting too excited about it.
The tech creates an advantage for them, and they're going to exploit that for as long as they can. Kudos to them, but not a real big "thing to follow" or anyone else.
Im super happy about id Tech 5 being Zenimax/Bethesda only engine, it means Elder Scrolls V is almost 100% going to use the engine, and i get the feeling Bethesda knew the engine would be perfect for the game, which is why they've just got ahold of it now, because they must be developing the game. Well at least i hope they are
For me, RAGE doesnt even come up on the radar, i mean great tech, yes. It looks pretty awesome, but i'm just pumped to see what Bethesda will use it for, and i'm almost certain it'll be Elder Scrolls V
The elder scroll games were always fun, but they really never looked good. The characters always look horrible, awkward, and stiff, poor animation, and mediocre environments.
I was hoping for an open engine like they are doing with the udk, cry engine, unity, etc.
Rage actually looks well done, lots of detail everywhere, and the little game play I've seen looks refreshing and new, and its sounds like they are going to mix things up.

Quoted for truth. The old people in Oblivion were creepy as shit, looking like their faces were about to melt off. I wonder if BEthesda will use th tch for their next Fallout (after Vegas) since Rage is pretty much the same type of game.
I wonder why they went the way of it being exclusive to Zenimax. Great way to make there games look better but I doubt that will net them the same kinda cash as making money off developers using the editor. Seems like a really bad business decision to me. Have to remember great games are great because there fun and have awesome gameplay not because they look better then all other games out there or are built on awesome tech.
What strikes me as awesome about this is perhaps id can spend their time working on tech like carmack seems to love and beth can go make things with it.
Well, gamebryo wasn't an all too unflexible engine, considering civilization 4 used it too, I'm way more worried what will happen with bethesdas plugin centered ways of making their games.
Yup, there will be a perv revolt if they cant make nude packs
That, or the oscuros oblivion overhaul, which fixed the entire game and usually becomes the main thing someone installs after they've installed oblivion
No RPG is complete with badly modeled animals with blurry genitalia.
The nude mods always seemed in such bad taste. They were presented with a load of pictures of naked dead women, pulled about into poses. Kind of like the victims of a sexual psychopath. :poly122:

He put Doom on the Super Nintendo, so... yeah probably!
My guess is just a low-res diffuse-only implementation of streaming megatexture, seems the most logical way to do it.
Looks bloody great though. And the rest of his keynote was good too.
He does mention radiosity, yeah

Carmac actually mentions the download limit of major networks. apparently thats why the app store was so attractive.

That's the 2009 dude, watch out what you link.
I say give him the benefit of the doubt.
heh. fitting background.
I think a lot of RAGEs appeal just went out the window.

Yes please.

Then again im not a businessman
Oh and later Fallout 4 on it too, yes please.

And I the nude mods, anime schoolgirl characters, furry plugins and anything that made the game look like second life.

You've been working with the cryengine 3 too much. Quick use that as an excuse to get some more holiday time.
Here's the keynote, unfortunately only audio. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_SdC8LVODY[/ame]
Its usually up so fast after the event has finished...im not sure why they would hold onto it for so long
Thanks for the audio link Slum
Audio only, but since god is omnipresent, you don't need to see him.
Btw, had a quick word with matt hooper from id at gamescom! He was showing rage, man the game is looking good!
