Well apparently there's something in the water in the U.S. cause if this thing passes not only will people in the states be screwed, it will affect everyone else too.
Hopefully everyone will think it's stupid and and invte U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman politely to "go fuck himself".

Here is a practical use case:
Shut down your internet for a week and you will see no difference except you will be diverted towards either outer sports, inner board games, inner sports and books.
I have a feeling he'd clamp down on information and privacy just as much as Bush.

shutting down the internet would do more harm than good. How much of America's economy is through the internet? "Shutting it down" for hours, let alone, days would surely have significant results for e-commerce.

And to the international polycounters: yeah, the internet might still be free abroad, but if this passes, the US Gov will have the ability to shut down Americans' access completely, for any reason they deem "an emergency." Is there a threat requiring such action? Only if you consider your administration's freefalling approval ratings an emergency and want to control all information being disseminated.

They're all bent about taxes and government involvement in their lives but they're a few years too late with the righteous indignation.
The best way to keep your taxes low is to not start two prolonged wars or agree to one sided trade practices that benefit the few while hurting the many.
The best way to keep your personal freedom is to never give it up, even if someone offers a deal you can't refuse like for safety and security that never really materializes.

What I couldn't gather from the article: how influential is this guy, and how likely is it for this bill to gain any traction?
