Back then the thread of awesomeness was only 648 replies.
*single tear*, our little guy is growing up so fast.
Dude...you gotta let him go. He's 4,318 years old now. I know, they grow up so fast, but its time you let him spread his wings and fly!
It's for the best.
That screenshot is pretty classic, good selection of posts visible. You'd think it were rigged!
e: does anyone have any screenshots of PC in its earlier forms? For some reason I remember browsing a game art forum near the start of the century, think it was polycount but it looked seriously ghetto. Thread was about "sub-pixel detail" like zippers and stuff in Quake III, and how some people use the pencil tool at 1px to paint sharp lines. *memoryfreak*
How could anyone seriously think that image was awesome when its practically the same thing as we have now, except a (worse) logo and some different font/bg colours.
There is very little you can do to show an improvement over the current forums with just 1 image. Enabling normal users to delete their own posts would be nice. Maybe custom themes for people who don't like these colours. Both of these arent amazing features though, in fact I kinda expect most forums to already have these options.
im not for judging yet until i get my 'leet 2004 user sneak preview', but i couldn't help but wonder why all i see is news-news-news, 1 feature, and no community/forums links?
ideally, i imagine the main page should sport 3 sections: news, features (tutorials, articles, etc) and community (resources, forums-related, etc)
Wow, looks like it was yesterday. Per's Toillet Paper discussion...wtfk?
It's a shame. But what was (name) that fun thread were a guy throw a concept, than other person add stuff over, and so on...I think it was Gauss the starter....
An update: We've moved on from fixing bugs on the site - or the ones we know about as we're sure you guys will let us know of any that we've missed - to testing out database migration (we're moving from .net to .com!).
If the tests pass, then we're going to be moving forward and launching the site. (That's not a typo, I promise!)
One thing I wanted to reiterate, which I think I touched on in the OP, is the minimal changes you'll see to the forums and that the new front end is really just a game art blog that we know you guys are going to really dig and participate in.
However, those 2 things + the switch to the new domain is part of a bigger change: The framework for improvements. Once this is up, we can no move on larger ideas to improve polycount (e.g.: Image-in-a-thread previewing will not be live when we launch. But instead the new launch will allow us to do that).
The biggest reason this has taken so long, is quite simple the time needed to do so. This has been a multi-national effort, (from the US, to Europe, to Australia) and coordinating those people and their efforts isn't an easy task. On top of that, we've had the development of the website start-up and stop 3 times. THREE! Either people who were going to make it for us couldn't commit any longer, or they just fell off the face of the planet. With the Polycount Store going live, we were able to gather enough funds to pay a proper media company to developer the website for us. So a HUGE thank you to those of you who supported Polycount with some swag. Much like advertisements that'll eventually make their way to the site, all the funds from the store went directly back in to the community.
We've opened the staging site up to roughly 20 members, all of which were "senior" (registering by 2004 or earlier) and every single review I received was positive or constructive in making the site better for all of us.
So, thank you for your patience on this. I know I've teased it a LOT but it was something I had to do to keep my own interests in this site; Reading your replies to my teases is highly motivating and I doubt I'd be moving on this as much as I am without them.
Watch out, that thing might go off in your eye....
OK OK enough smartassness. This is good news, just give us a warning before the site goes down that way I can open a gameartist.net tab in FF.... True story!
They're called "sex rocks"... You know... Those things you throw at virgins to get them pregnant. They go for around $5 for a handful at any corner store.
America has everything! :P

Nah, most of us lost our sanity long ago. Now be quiet while I go talk to that purple elephant over there, they're very temperamental you know. :poly142:

That was 6 years ago?!? Seems like a year ago...
Once again the new PC will be PC3.0 not 2.0, were using 2.0 now!
EDIT: WOW i just realized that the Thread of Awesomeness has more posts than everything put together back in 2004...

at least put pic-o-day back!
*shrug*
Oh man that brings back memories. Do you have a pic of the main page too?
:shifty:->:poly118:->:poly127:
