The reason I suggested it was, maybe to encourage more game centric talk but your probably right.
Theres almost always a thread about a certain game popping up.
If there isnt then it just means there isn't anyone interested enough to post about it, and having another sub forum isn't gonna change that.
Have you thought of Paid subs? You don't need to charge the earth, just 2 or 5 bucks a month would be a suggestion. Paid Subs could have a few extra perks over non payers but in all its just a way to support the community and the site to keep it going.
I know a mate of mine did this for his fansite. Charging silver and gold member ship ($1 or $2 a month) and you get access to some features *copy paste from the site*
Spoiler
Customizable user title. (No HTML)
No advertisements, if implemented.
Increased PM storage capacity. (10x)
Increased avatar image size allowance. (4x)
Increased signature image size allowance. (4x)
Access to the subscriber-only off-topic forum. Access to the bandwidth-intensive chatbox.
Just buy stuff from the store, polycount hoodie/tshirt is much cooler than your list of perks
But I strongly disagree with the "private forum for subscribers only"... it will only segregate the forum more and theres bound to be certain discussions on the same subject going on in the multiple forums.
You can buy hoodies!? Wth? Where is this fabled store?
The US store won't ship to Australia for some spaz reason (unless Spreadshirt have recently changed it). You'll have to use the Euro store to buy items: http://polycount.spreadshirt.co.uk/
I'm not really interested in offering Premium Accounts to you guys as thats not a way I am comfortable with this site earning money for itself. If you guys are paying Polycount for anything, ever, it would be for a service like classes, etc.
The first batch of ads we run (re: a couple months) will be nothing more than Adsense, so we can garner some metrics based around ad's alone.

Oh thats cool, I'll be moving to the us soon anyway.
Damm only man-shirts. Guess I'll have to get the smallest size possible
We'll there be an associated closely integrated wiki or something similar?
Will the user sorting by post count or join date work properly now for the people who don't show up now?
When I'm walking for longer distances or sitting in a waiting room or whatever, I click through a couple things on my phone, Gmail and Facebook usually.
If PC2.0 is gonna have all this great content, it would be awesome to have a little news/article reader app that showed the most recent info in a low-bandwith, easy to read format.
i dunno about the website but that photo of the desk has to belong to someone really awesome, and attractive, and awesome, with a mustache and beard, and cool stuff. *cough*
cool shit guys, lookin forward to this!! I will be sad to have ads in the pretty layout, but hopefully they can be integrated enough like GA & CGnetworks to not be obtrusive.
i mean.... i just hope that's in there somewhere is all.... out of all the hard work and cool shit, i just want a facepalm smiley...... don't get me wrong... i am beyond pumped about the site.... really stoked because i know that it is going to kick ass.... it's just that jean luc can only get so much air time before he gets old... and i mean the dude is already old to begin with.... but i dunno.... and maybe one that has a shovel and starts digging a hole in the ground.... that could be useful right about..... now >
so do we support polycount by clicking on the adds or by just not blocking them with addblock?
Since we are running with adsense, to my understanding it doesn't require you to click on the link and it works just by having the ad appear in the ad rotation.
Also the ads should generally be 3D/game/cg related, so some may benefit from seeing them.

As far as I'm aware, the Wiki will work the same as it currently does. At least for now.
The user sorting? If you're referring to searching through the member list and being able to sort alphabetically, by post count, search date and such? I just personally tested this functionality on the new site. As it stands, it is in working order.
Interesting day. We're going to be launching with a brand-spanking-new contest for you guys. Because of this, the launch may be delayed by a week or so from our original plans. I'm still hoping for some time in April for the launch.
As well, our senior members - thats those of you who "registered in 2004" - will be slowly given access to the staging site where you can give me your thoughts and feedback as we lead up to the launch.

It could come with an iPhone app, certainly. Just not right away. We're interested, though.
Not specifically an IPhone app (as I am yet to join that glorious revolution) but having a version which is optimised to run on the tiny squished screen of a mobile browser would be great!

They should offer a belt to tie around bally (for girls only)
I'd prefer that man "Hood" will never change.

Example Autodesk product put down threads may become a thing of the past.
