UDK : Stained Glass Window Lighting Effect & Materials

I'm gonna try and smash two questions into here quickly if I can. Firstly there was a recent thread we where discussing the addition of a stained glass window to a fellow users work, the two references for help where :

http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/Lightmass.html#Translucent%20shadows
http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/LightingReference.html#Light%20Functions

I can totally see what both of these are getting at but its just not detailed enough for a new-ish user like myself. I have a piece of work that this would add a huge boost to. Am I right that translucent shadows is the better looking of the two? Is it harder? Can someone knock up/direct me to a better guide?

On another quick note, is there a website that has lists of materials created in UDK and the material networks with them. I often see questions here and on GameArtists like "how do I make gold?!" or "How do I recreate snow?". Is there a place where these answers along with there shader networks are documented?

You can always dig through the UDK thread or the polycount wiki
    http://boards.polycount.net/showthread.php?t=67290

Often you can find specifics, but there isn't a lot out there where someone sits down and walks you through setting up different types of materials. I usually go with trial and error, scouring google and art forums, and if all else fails ask someone that also works in Unreal.

For those two lighting effects. it's whats correct for your project. I recently experimented with both, and went with the light function on a spot light. This was because I had a lot of smaller windows with multiple lighting directions (ie big fire all around the outside, no direct sun). I wanted to control the position of the cast without changing the scene lighting. However, if I'd wanted a more realistic sunlight, I'd have gone with Translucent shadows

If you can spend a little money, check out http://eat3d.com/
He's got some good ones on Unreal that have a lot of good info like hotkey and such that'll speed you up.

Is there a stained glass material/image in UDK from download or did you have to create a material?
