Hi there !
Here's my new project. A party tank (wtf o_O ? ). This idea is based off a concept i found on the internet some time ago :
Sorry i don't know the name of the artist -- Sure I know his name ... Aaron Beck (thanks Xoliul ) Here's his site : http://www.apbworks.co.nz/subindex.htm
For the upper part (the part where the guy is standing) i think i'll mostly used the lamborghini reventon design (nice sharp edges).
Concept art of the car :
I thought about making that thing too some day, but you seem to be doing very well already. I'm not sure you should base yourself too much on the concept for the turret, especially shapewise. You've taken quite a different direction by not using the typical flowing, designed shapes Aaron uses, but instead the WH40K type, sharp, squarish approach with lots of bolts and rivets. Try incoporating that into the turret as well, or things might seem too different stylewise.
Awesome modeling so far GoSsS, I always really enjoy your work. I think all the ammo boxes and stuff on the sides of the turret make it feel way too small and look like they would prevent it from even moving much. But thats my only gripe.
@Xoliul : Thanks a lot for the name and the site of the guy (I added the information on my first post).
I understand your worries about the turret. The idea I have is that some DJ decided to use an old tank (warhammer 40k stylzzzz) and replaced the turret by some kind of modern mixing booth (with all the stuf they need to work), thus turning the tank into a sort of mobile discotheque.
Maybe it'll seem totaly odd (in that case i'll stick with the warhammer 40k style as you say, but i really think the mix of a old/modern design could work (hope so )).
@konstruct : Thanks !
Yeah the speaker canon will be a challenge. Thansk a lot for the artwork; it'll really help me finding some shapes and ideas for this part.
@nrek : Thanks!
Yeah the ammo boxes prevent the turret from moving but i don't think it's a problem because this tank doesn't have any military purpose (the only thing that could come from the back is all the girlzz loving your mix ).
The moving turret is useful on a real tank but this is not a real tank, this is ........ the party tank
Okay, how the hell does one move from a block out version to a high poly version.
For some reason I think the low poly and the high poly have to be very similar in shape, thus making it easier to make the HP before since it's easier to manipulate the shape of a LP, but no?
Nice work so far though, looking like a good fun model.

When working on a large model like this, it is useful to create a "block out" model that is made of rough shapes/primitives to help get a sense of mass and scale. These blocks are discarded as you build the finished high poly pieces. Then you build a low poly model around the high poly model, and then bake/texture.
So the blockout model is not a low-poly model, merely a reference object.
I am really intrigued by your render settings. You get some really nice results. Do you just overlay a film grain over the entire image in photoshop or is that a render option? Also what package are you rendering in? Nice modeling by the way
@ima : Look Ghostscape answer @RoosterMAP : Sorry guy, i'll make the next smaller (1000 px wide) @torontoanimator : Thanks ! Yeah some warhammer 40k designs are really fantastic. @EricV : I'm using 3ds max. For the render it's simply 2 renders in max (one with a raytrace material and an other one for the AO). I multiply the two in photoshop and play with contrast, noise and lens correction. And somtimes i put a metal texture in overlay with a really low opacity. @dgozmo : Thanks:
Here is an update of the turret. I think the two different styles aren't a problem.

This is amazing! I wasn't sure how I felt about the idea of a tank with speakers, but the progress so far is breathtaking. Seriously some of the best hard edge modeling I've ever seen.

but the back door is not a little tiny compared to front windows?
cant wait to see more..

If you really wanted to push this thing, you should work in some elements from this ealier one
Aaron beck is AWESOME. really liking how his mechanical design sense looks so organic and free flowing.
@Zof : Thnaks! For the back door, i think it's just the 2 front windows that are a little big. I'll change that
@bbob. : Thanks!

And some Hi res renders of the turret alone :
Next step, the two giant speakers ! let's goooo !
@makecg : Thanks !
Some news. The first speaker is done :
tadaaaa!
Time to do the second one!
Very nice highpoly work.
very much a top row contender i'd say once finished
me very happy. :poly122:
Definitely! This is so rad, fantastic modeling. Update if you've got something new!:)
It's fun to imagine this tank being real, with a DJ just cruising around. Would be awesome.
Nice work. I must see final effect!!
