Hey fellas,
So all of us here at Cryptic are excited about our launch of STO today (early start for preorders) and officially on the 2nd of Feb. The game's been doing well with the community so far and I'm very anxious about how it will be received by the public at large.
I got to play the game yesterday for the first time in months and I was actually very impressed with how much it has come along since I first joined the Cryptic team.
This is my first title that I've launched and I'm really proud to have my art in it. For months I worked as an environment artist on the project, and then recently have moved over in to the starship department. I hope that if any of you play the game that it's enjoyable for you.
Please feel free to leave any comments here for us too!
I want to thank the PC community for being so instrumental in the progression of my 3d abilities that have made it possible for me to be a part of this culture that I truly love.
Cheers - and to those that try the game - Enjoy!
ADAM

I was lucky enough to get into the beta for a few days and what you guys were able to put together in 2 years is very respectable, only going to get better.
My favorite thing about Startrek Online, aside from the art , is the community. Say what you want about trekkies, they're not a bunch of jaded gamers and many of them seem very appreciative to have this title, the positive energy you find in game is really uplifting, aside from the occasional asshat, but what can you do? Heard you guys have some good numbers so far, here's hopin you guys make a killing and take this game where no games ever gone before!
Congratulations on the first of many.
I wholly support and encourage the idea of purchasing this product and subscribing to it, my involvement in the creation of said product notwithstanding.
so while not a wow killer, I still am intrigued to do some pewpewing that doesn't require me to have a hundred spreadsheets open.
SOLD!
As for the game being a bit barebones, there might be some truth to that, but I honestly haven't gotten much chance to play mid to late level content yet, but I know the early on stuff is just jam packed full of good. I'm not much of an MMO player, but i had genuine fun so far playing the game.
As far as "WoW Killer" (a term I've heard time and time again over the years) I gotta say that our game isn't intended to kill WoW and I think it's a terrible idea to even attempt to make a game with the intention of killing WoW.
The only thing that will kill WoW is WoW 2, and even THAT will only deplete some of WoW's numbers, nothing will ever kill Wow lol.
lulz, yeah, why do the fans always throw the "wow killer" moniker around, movies aren't hyped as Titanic (or now Avatar) killers.
dont get me wrong though, I'm more of a mixed fan, I've put my wow subscribtion to rest so that I can have time to try this out, since I'm quite interested in a sci-fi world mmo compared to good ol
And true, our game is much closer to WoW style combat than Eve style. The space combat has been compared to pirates of the burning sea with a third axis of movement, so @Slum, the ships move more like a ship than a character in space. I personally wish that the space combat was a little more realistic (as in, the way space physics actually work AKA Battlestar Galactica - flying backwards and shit) but they didn't take that direction
newtonian physics like in B5 and battlestar galactica never had its place in any of the startrek series I guess, it was very much planes in space with that, flying backwards is quite a bit over the top though, and I dont even see it as needed :P
There really isn't much of a punishment for dying now it seems as well.
how about someone pop up a polycount fleet?, it's a one server mmo.
I really like it so far. So far I find it casual enough to be fun without wasting entire evenings. Just what I need after work. Thanks!
Just you guys make sure to do something about ground combat....but you know this, right? :P It all feels very laggy but space combat is a-okay!
I remember my first game and it was nowhere near the magnitude that this game is. So congrats again on that!
Look me up on there (username's "flaagan".. duh).
NInja edit:
Got my pre-order bonuses pretty slick cant wait to fuck shit up! lol
Blowing up stuff in the name of progress and exploration!
You can literally make anything you want, I'm still amazed people actually choose to stay human instead of making there own race.
