Hey guys, I'm looking around to buy a bigger monitor around 24.6" or bigger (nothing above 28") and I was wondering if you could help by providing links to some monitors you prefer! Thanks.
To OP: Keep in mind that these monitors aren't 'IPS', but merely modified cheaper panels. This does make a great difference though in some ways. I own the Dell UltraSharp 2209WA, and I really like it.
But, do your research. Apparently Dell has had big problems with tinting out of the box. If you get lucky, it's well worth the price though.
I need to wait till I get like $1500 saved up before I even think about buying 2 new monitors, how long do decent ips/va monitors last? Hopefully like 10 years.
Thought I would reply in here instead of making a new thread. I'm looking for a new monitor but am unsure what to get. Everyone seems pretty concerned about TN vs IPS vs VA monitors but is the difference really noticeable?
I'm currently on an old ass CRT thats needs some replacing. I'm looking for 22- 24" with HDMI and audio out. Although I'm worried 24" might be a bit too big to be staring all the time.
as I have one at work and it seems pretty damn awesome. But its only hooked up to a PS3 so I'm not sure what its like as a desktop monitor. Also its over 2 times the price. =\
If youre not into heavy painting I really wouldnt bother with anything above a TN panel - For general desktop/gaming a TN will do just fine and will probably have a faster refresh rate... Hell, you could go for the new Samsung 120hz flatscreens for something super quick albeit slightly more expensive than most TN panels.
Theres like 4-5 well known IPS monitors and at this date they all seem to all have a bad case of panel lottery. The one Yozora was talking about - the dell u2410 - uses the same panel as the HP 2475w, which, if you read around has a fucking terrible reputation for being faulty with tints and other problems. I got a stepdown of that, the 2445 and both ive had so far have been faulty, i just decided to put up with this one as i cant be bothered with the hassle of replacing my 4th monitor.
To put it simply, a TN with tilt will be fine for most... do some research on them and make sure theyre not totally shit and youll get something thats decent enough. Otherwise, spend £400+ (24") or look at getting a NEC or Eizo monitor (some nice 22" IPS ones afaik), then again, ive not read up on those completely so they might suffer the same problems of shoddy QC!
I've been eyeballing this one. It hangs around $599 usually, but I have seen it go down to $499 during a sale (should have nabbed it but waited too long). From what I can tell, it should be a terrific monitor, plus the new all-black casing is great IMO.
The hood really makes a difference, cuts ambient light and helps me zone in on what I'm doing. Color is near perfect out of the box, blacks looks truly black. I still calibrate with a Spyder 3 anyway just to be safe.

IPS/VA monitors are a little expensive but worth the extra cost

I got one and it died 40 days after buying it! I am now without a monitor now until they send me a refurbished one.
a cheap IPS option is the VP2365wb from viewsonic,

But for non IPS, the Dell SP2309W seems to be the winner.

Another one to watch out for is the new samsung's with the clean base stand, they suck to use.

I've two of these. They pwn hard.
Although wait for a deal. I got $350 off during a sale.

$750 seems to be the average price, I'd only buy from a site with a decent rep.
have the 4:3 versions of that at work, there good to go
No one here has posted a single monitor for under $600 bucks, there's a reason why your monitor is so cheap.
indeed. great VA panel, great colors etc
Looks like its the successor to the 2408wfp with an H-IPS panel~ Costs about the same as well

I wasn't actually planning on buying a new monitor but the more I read about them, the more I feel like buying one
edit - slightly more reading leads to an apparently common problem with weird green/pink tints http://en.community.dell.com/Search/SearchResults.aspx?q=green+pink

I was looking at

Its TN though but way easier on the wallet.
I really wanted to get

Any suggestions or alternatives?
