What is indie rates?

Hi to all. Many time i see on paid job, or freelance job that someone ask for artists that will be able to "charge indie rates". Can someone plz explain me what that mean. If it is forbidden to talk here, i would like you to send me PM with explanation.

usually indies don't have much money, so indie rates just impliest that artists are willing to work for less money than they would usually take from bigger clients with a decent budget

and what is minimum rate per hour? is it 20$, more, less? how much usualy thay are willing to offer?

It's usually the artist that advertises the 'indie rates'.

Indie rates is not something you can live on, consider it extra income, some companies will pay by royalties, meaning no money upfront, once the game sells, you get your cut, if it keeps on selling after 10 years you still get a check, depending on your contract of course.
