There's three things that could be happening in terms of rendering here. It may be a viewport grab, in which case they are using specialized materials like an equivalent to the 3-point shader for 3dsMax (which is what I am guessing it is). They could be using a secondary realtime rendering engine like Marmoset. Or, and least likely, they are using a specialized shader like the mia-material in Mental Ray and rendering it out that way.
