Surprised to see there wasn't a thread on this already, but I had tried to bury my head in the sand so perhaps rightly so.
DAT ASS!!!
Anyway... I just got back from seeing The Avengers. Think New Zealand may have been the first to get it. Now, I don't wanna spoil it by over-hyping it for anyone, but holy crap it was AMAZING!!!
I booked the tickets a week ago, so we had the best seats in the house. I was grinning the whole time. Dialogue was great, fight scenes were awesome (and there was a lot of them) and there was some great cinematography and stunning CG.
A must see for sure!

How would you say it ranks among other super hero movies?
Ordering tickets here just guarantees you can get in. Other than that, the seats are first come first serve.
First to order tickets gets the best seats. That's how we do it here in the civilized world! No brawls in the movie theatre.
I had no idea you guys were getting it so long after us, usually its the other way around.
As far as ranking, I would personally put it right up there at there at the top.
I can't wait to see this. My birthday is May 5, so we'll be seeing it for my birthday, and I'm glad to hear it will kick ass
Select areas in the US were awarded advanced releases, so some cities will be able to see it this weekend. Not sure why it's out so soon outside of the US though.
Normally I'd scoff at it and grab one nearby, but just this once...
they don't do this at the Cineworld where i live (milton keynes)
Cant wait to see avengers. Ill probably hold off a couple weeks till there arent as many douche bag talkers in the theaters.
i was so scared that they'd have to dilute the characters to fit them all in, or that one of them would dominate the rest but honestly it just didn't happen. Stark was badass cocky, Cap'n was... well, Cap'n. Banner was perfect, SO well played.
the only characters i felt didn't fit in too well were Black Widow and Hawkeye, but i think that might be because they didn't have their own "build up" movie/s.
oh, and watch til the end of the credits.
The one real reason to worry about was the directing in the action scenes, as Whedon had little experience with that, coming from a mainly TV background. From what I hear, he pulled that part off just as well - I'll see in 24 hours
he did...
and genuinely i can't think of another action film where i've laughed so often either.
Who was that after the credits? Not familiar with Marvel lore that much.
!!!MASSIVE MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT!!!!
In Austin, Texas we got this awesome marathon going on at the Alamo Drafthouse.

I am sincerely sorry if any of you are unfortunate enough to not live with in distance of an Alamo drafthouse.

But I'd rather just watch those movies at home over the course of a week or something, that way I won't be tired when it comes time to watch the avengers.
Oh my, did he pull it off...
Book your tickets, this is a movie that can't be missed.
Yeeeeeeeeah. No shower scene though. WTF Whedon? They don't have showers on the SHIELD base?
This guy is doing it right.
Seems like it was a good idea releasing this film elsewhere before the US. Word of mouth will make the US domestic opening weekend figures phenomenal.
not a great film, but it entertains a weekend.
I especially loved Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk
trying not to spoil it here by giving scene reference hah!
Great jokes, some serious boner inducing VFX and just overal badassery. Totally recommended!
Also, Joss Whedon is god.
Cant wait to see it!
I came out actually not knowing if Dark Knight was still my favourite comic book movie!?! thought it was that good haha!!!
It's been years since i left the cinema excited about what I'd just seen (Now I've seen 2 in 1 year)
The Scene with Loki and the hulk was one of the single funniest things I've seen in a long time.
my thoughts every time my friends want to go to the movies
Apparently you haven't seen Firefly - otherwise you would have known that already
Oh and Marvel is already warming up to a third Hulk movie based on audience reactions. It must be done.
if you have to choose between 2d/3d, save the money, the 3d is REALLY bad.
Anyway, It was still awesome a second time. Still can't find flaws in it. Its just too good. And I would have to agree on the hulk, best likeness to the comics thus far. Really hope another Hulk film goes ahead based on this version.
spoiler much?
