Its time for character modeling!

Hallo all happy polycount users.
Im starting this tread becouse i whant to make a AAA character :)
And the best part is that i never made a character in my whole life!
And now you think...Ok good luck naab, but it will take the times it need and i hope some one will be helping me on the way.

And if there is some one who also never made a character, hang on and join!
I think i understand the workflow pretty much and will take it one step at the time.

Step 1: Find a cool concept or make your own.

I whnat to make a Metro 2033 / Stalker looking / postapocalypric character and found some images that is my main reference, since i don't have decided everything yet.

Step 2 : Make a Base mesh!

since this is my first try and my experience are pretty low i decided to make a plain human first, and then get him the gear and clothes, so that they hang on him in a natural way.
so this mesh will only be used as a sculpt model!

Read some of the awesome poly wiki
(
http://wiki.polycount.com/BaseMesh?highlight=%28\bCategoryCharacterModeling\b%29http://www.selwy.com/2008/male-01/ )
about basemeshes and started of today!

This is how far i come today

We will se if this turns out great or if this is my first and last attempt to make a character.

If you whant to se some other things i've done vissit http://johannesl.com/
with best regards

quads look evenly spaced so ZBrush should be your friend, im pretty new to character modelling myself so my advice will be limited,
for your anatomy sculpt i recommend this book by scott spencer [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/ZBrush-Digital-Sculpting-Human-Anatomy/dp/0470450266/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334703582&sr=8-1"]ZBrush Digital Sculpting Human Anatomy: Amazon.co.uk: Scott Spencer: Books[/ame]

i suppose one thing i will say is dont rush things, take your time on EVERYTHING, even if you think as a professional i shouldn't take this look , if you do something right first time chances are you can do it again twice as fast !!!
and always have a concept to work from dont make it up on the spot, i have done this myself and the results never turn out as good as they could be, and dont be afraid to take things back a few steps if things arent going right.
most important have fun man , :) hope any of this has helped

Looks good fro sculpting for sure. I would agree with above, even if it is just a really loose concept, or loosely based on a concept. Also grab tons of reference, an artist is only as good as his reference. Plus it can help give you a lot of direction on your character dev.

wolfonthehorizon : Thanks for the good advice, i will take time on everything and have no deadline for this project,

Donavonyoung : Good to know. i will probably make a new "lowpoly" mesh just for baking when the result is done. And yes, you are right. I need to find good references. du you have any links, that can help me out with sculpting anatomy.

SPYFF: it would be somthing like that, dont know if i will make "like a postapocalyptic soldier" or "a guy that just have found stuff to survive" More like Stalker.
