Not sure if people are gonna like it but here is a little tutorial I put together today.
For some times I fought with Zbrush 2.5 D but I was never satisfied with it. Lack of control and so on...I wanted to have best of both worlds with the control of max and the processing power of Z, without having to decimate (I had a bad experience recently when I had to decimate too much and would either loose details on my normals or have a normal that was too faceted / triangulated).
So I thought about another workflow. I did some tests with some friends and here is the result. Somewhat cumbersome probably but once used to it, it's really fast and efficient (to me at least), but I have total control and power. To me this is key.
Anyway, let me know if you find it usefull in some manner or if you have any better idea for the same workflow.
