I didn't really play Crysis 1 or 2 for a game that made sense. They both had ridiculous aliens as far as I'm concerned. And now they're going to let me shoot them with arrows? All the better!
Ahh. I didn't see your post, Scudz. I only seem to get email notifications for the first reply after I check the thread, so I seem to miss a bunch of updates/posts
I wonder if it has anything to do with the reception the game received though. I think it did OK sales wise though. Will be very interesting to see if their more recent but far better received games (ME3 after all is said and done, BF3) make the jump.
Why would you blow up a dam? That's just a weird thing to throw in a trailer.
I'm not bothered by the bow (since I won't use it :P), but I have hope for the game since the line "become the ultimate hunter" was put in the trailer. That concept of being the Predator (from the films) is the most amazing thing that the series has going for it, and has been the consistent saving grace of an otherwise bland franchise. The game is amazing in the first half before the aliens pop up because it allows you to use tactics to smoothly take down your opposition. Very satisfying Then aliens come and you just have average gunplay.
Although despite that, it is kinda annoying that you have an alien menace raping earth and you're spending two games shooting humans who want to kill you because...? They have to explain that at some point. I got the motivation last game, but it was really over the top.
Crysis was obvious, but in 2 CELL wanted to kill you, then went rogue, then still wanted to kill you because... they wanted revenge on you? But if the idea was to kill you to take the suit off Hargreave could have just told the commander that and solved everything easily.
My memory of the plot is a bit hazy since it was a forgettable experience, but I do remember proper motivation being rather thin.
Of course the typical wearer can remove the nanosuit after putting it on. Alcatraz couldn't because he was broken mush inside it; it was basically working as an exoskeleton.
Man, it's an alien invasion scenario and they're talking about energy politics. Seriously, whoever writes for this series needs to take the shortbus to work.
That's accurate from what I've seen. It's also a stupid way to waste a premise and create a pointless meandering storyline with forgettable everything.
seriously... who sees a storyline with a greedy energy corporation and aliens trying to take over the planet and thinks "these aliens are neat and all, but I'd like to see more happen with that corporation"
I know gameplay is first, but I'm one of those story nerds everyone hates, so: internment/concentration camps by an energy corporation that extorts people? I know that games-writing is technically in its infancy, and the Hitler-esque enemy is the easiest trope to shoehorn into any game plot - but this is ridiculous. I could understand if the infrastructure/bureaucracy of the world-at-large went the way of the Dodo with the Ceph's arrival - but we simply went up and built a fucking dome around them, ensuring that the outside and modern world is still present and functioning - which makes the whole "CELL IS HITLER" plot point, again, ridiculous - no one in 'freedom-loving 'Murica' would let it pass.
Beta's on at the moment, ends on the 12th I believe. I really like the environments especially the swamp; nice colour choices and great atmosphere. I like how Crytek are giving us old school type guns, but I wish they fired more than just plasma balls. Might pick it up upon release, might wait for a Steam version/sale; not really sure yet. I do think it's an improvement over Crysis 2 though.

Are the octo-aliens from the first game supposed to belong to the same race as the aliens from the second game?
AE: There's a difference between mere hating as opposed to critiquing based on the merits of an idea.
it's a video game, it doesn't have to
It's been 10-20 years, give the guy a break.
Edit: Check Scudz' post on last page.
Cheers for the explanation
WTF? E.A. games back on Steam?
I just noticed that haha, I had the same reaction as you Well hopefully they switch other EA games over too.

So, Psycho and other users can never remove it? Sounds like a pretty basic design flaw to me...

Great to see it being more open than Crysis 2.
