Hey guys, here's a new project I'm doing for class. I'm following the final drawing in the second image and using some parts of the first. The concept is by Mike Yamada.
I'm also thinking about adding a cow catcher/pilot so that when the rhino rams into cars, they push them aside during a race.

Close up of the suspension, still a work in progress.
the wing on top faces the other way in the concept, i prefer it that way but other than that- great job so far!
@Xoliul: Thanks, I spent a lot of time researching on suspension before I started making it; I'm glad it turned out believable! I agree the body is a bit fat, I think I made it like that subconsciously because it looked like it could realistically handle its speed. Also, I wasn't going to add the headlights in because I was following his final design more than the sketch he did in the image below since I liked that one more, but I'll try it out and add it in if it's really that important. The body also looked fatter in this image too.
EDIT: Added the dome. Not really sure about it though.
@xK1NGxOFxSKAx - The material setup is a dark gray material with high spec, a bit of gloss and a 3 point lighting setup. Sometimes I use the realistic shader in max when I'm on a different computer since my personal one doesn't support it.
Everything has such a cool rounded and soft shape language, and the cattle guard seems more steam punk appropriate.
@Jessica: Thanks, the tires are slick tires or racing tires so there isn't really a type of tread.
@Wasabi: Thanks! It's a portfolio piece so using a little more triangles should be no biggie.
Which version do you prefer? 1 or 2?
EDIT: Lets just go with #1
How did you wind up going about the glow of the boosters on the back? What that done in post, or in Marmoset?
@SHEPEIRO: Thanks, I'll give it a try!
@Tom Pritchard: Now that I look at the concept again, the windshield is more blue, nice catch.
@gilesruscoe: I would love to add strong fresnel and cubemap effects, but I don't know how to do that even more so in Marmoset than I already did. I turned the specular sharpness up to 256 (or max). Marmoset doesn't really support a slot for reflections itself and it's built into the specular sharpness.
I hope they add the full resolution for cube maps back into Marmoset in the next update! It would help me and everyone else a lot
Liking where this is going man, nice and chunky, clean textures.. good work so far!
I suggest you try my shader; I've always tweaked it to make it work well with vehicles, plus it has some options for soft illustrative (cartoony) lighting. Things Marmoset just doesn't allow you any control over.
Thanks to those who have helped along the way.
