While there's obvious and deliberate Half-Life 2 look to the world (same concept artist and all) I find the characters remind me more of Bioshock Infinite than TF2.
And now I really want a single player stealth/assination TF2 game......
I would follow Victor Antonov into the depths of hell and back again.
"When I started designing for dishonored, I started like I usually would do, by eliminating influences, so I definitely did not look into other video games or film to avoid cliche` because right now theres so many sequels and sequels in the videogame industry and so many IP`s that are known. So, my strategy is to go the other way and start from scratch by looking at paintings, sculpture, photography, and read books rather than get influence by other pieces of entertainment." -
I always thought it was important to be a culture vulture- but now I`m not sure- Antonov brings up a very good point.
I think that's kind of deliberate with the style they've chosen for the characters, might also be the video/jpeg compression. Here's a couple character-centric screens that show em a bit better
even in light of the above screens, they just seems super mucky. They just seem to receive lighting really weird, and the rigging in some cases seem to really screw with the volumes. I`m sure they all look amazing in T pose, I just have a feeling the process of getting them in engine stripped them of their cleanliness.
LOL- is also possible these are console spec no? Usually early shots show off highres textures and lighting. I suppose its possible Arkane isn`t jumping on the bullshot bandwagon.
Well they do have a bit of that muddy look to the faces that Alice had (not as bad though). And Madame's scarf in the bottom pic doesn't have any geometry to back it up...It's just occurred to me that that might be a mister... so it's certainly a valid crit.
I must be too excited for the whole to have noticed an off piece.
Is this game being made on Source Engine? I see so many resemblances, and we know Arcane has Source Engine licence which they used for Dark Messiah. But still there is something odd, hell even water looks just the same as you can with Source.
Q: Why doesnt Dishonored take advantage of the idTech5 engine?
A: The game was in early development before we joined Bethesda. Were certainly impressed by everything idTech5 has to offer, but Dishonored is being crafted with a custom version of the Unreal Engine, including plenty of features developed in-house.
I saw this the other day. Agree with the muddy faces, maybe they will fix that before its released. Other then that I think it looks great and I am really excited for it!
It's about bloody time people started paying attention to this game. I've got it pegged as game of the year by a significant margin. The combination of Looking Glass alumnus Harvey Smith with Arkane Studios, along with all the talk about focus on systemic design is pretty exciting, I think.
The characters aren't tooooo bad. But most of their arms in those screen shots look too long. They have a kind of "puppetry on strings" look because of it.
I love Antonov's art, but I don't know how well he succeeded in 'eliminating' influence as was quoted before; his primary style (a.k.a what Half Life 2 used) is all over the environments/machinery, so much so that the average news-website commneter says "Looks like Half Life 2."
Not a fan of the character art; the low polycount certainly doesn't do it justice. Here's hoping to great gameplay.

Antonov said they wanted him to design few things in tribute to HL2, also it's a tactic to get attention of HL2 fans.
Dishonored casts you as a supernatural assassin driven by revenge. You are the once-trusted bodyguard of the beloved Empress. Framed for her murder, you become an infamous assassin, known only by the disturbing mask that has become your calling card. In a time of uncertainty, when the city is being besieged by plague and ruled by an oppressive government armed with strange technologies, dark forces conspire to bestow upon you abilities beyond those of any common man.
In Dishonored, creatively eliminate your targets with the flexible combat system as you combine the numerous supernatural abilities, weapons and unusual gadgets at your disposal. Pursue your enemies under the cover of darkness or ruthlessly attack them head on with weapons drawn. The outcome of each mission plays out based on the choices you make.

New game from Bethesda, the setting looks really cool. Unfortunately, like most trailers, can't comment on the gameplay or if they hired more than 6 voice actors.
Not actually a game by Bethesda, only published by them, this game is being produced by them, this is being made by Arkane Studios.
Also, the beginning of this game looks to have you imprisoned, but not actually taken corporal punishment, because you want revenge for being framed for murdering the Empress.

Credit where credit is due though, Arkane has done some great stuff :P
Am I the only one who thinks this looks like an Assassin's Creed on steroids?
Regardless, loving the style, despite the low polycounts! Anyone know which CG house made the trailer?
Caught sight of this last year. Instantly reminded of Half-Life 2 with a lot of other unique factors thrown in. Fell off my radar for a bit due to the lack of updates. Seeing the video I'm reminded of Skyrim, with several of those supernatural powers having a counterpart in dragon shouts. Not a bad thing at all, because they were awesome, and also funny since I had a leaflet for this game in the Skyrim box. Certainly some Assassin's Creed as well.
This one's probably going to be a must buy for me. You can't combine "assassin" and "supernatural" and not have me want it like crazy.

What the hell are you guys trying to pull off here? Multi-Global nerd-jacular-gasm so the world explodes?
I must be too excited for the whole to have noticed an off piece.
Though could use some texture clarity, at least for the screenshots.
There's another video here. Gives you a slightly better idea of what Dishnored is all about

What do you guys mean by "muddy" characters? I'm quite liking the look what they've got going, myself.
This looks ace, I'll be keeping an eye on this.
