FINAL UPDATE





Ok, so a little late to the party but here is my initial concept. I call it "Tik, Tok" because everything with a clock should be called that. So its inspired by Death and Time's intimate relationship, plus I think its cool to hit things with a clock. I think I like the idea of the Handle being the Pendulum and just having the 2 weights on the side dangling better that having the handle be one of the weights. Anyway, comments and suggestions are very welcome.

So the model changed a bit during the modeling, because I think this one has a better silhouette. I started debating in which direction should I push the model, add spikes and the grim reaper cloak for KoD, or add gears and other clockwork devices and have it be a Makers weapon. Suggestions are appreciated as always
The center sphere is supposed to be a clock, with bubble glass covering.

Here is some better art to help me move in a direction, and I think this will be a MAKERS Axe. I like it better because it really features better my original concept of a clock, and while the KoD does have the time/death thing going for it, I am biased towards steampunk.

So I think I have the base model ready for sculpting, here it is, for your viewing pleasure and is, of course, still open to suggestions for improvement. The current tri count is 1468.

This is a pretty cool concept. I think the maker version is definitely the most appropriate.

I like the whole clock concept. It certainly fits with the makers style. Also I make the blue circle flat not round that way it will look more like a cog when you cut it out. Looking good so far Andy.

Really nice concepts, but I read the clock as more steampunk than Maker. Maker is based on blacksmiths and architectural shapes. Check out the latest Vigil Nights livestream with one of our concept artists designing a Maker weapon. It should help a lot!

Ok so this is sort of the direction Im headed now, at least to get the clock out of the picture.

I'm glad you kept the original design cause the shape is unique.

But I'd have put something in the middle where the clock used to be. Heck the original design looks fine to me, just take out the clock and shove a gem or something central into it. What about a Maker face.

See, I was so fixated on the clock as a whole that I didnt even think of jsut getting rid of the clock face and replacing it. Thanks Habboi, I'll look into bringing that back

Little update on the whole. The "clock" part is coming back, but the clock itself will be replaced, but with what is still to be decided. Based on suggestions, the I added a bit of asymmetry on the head, not too much, just a bit to break the lines. If it doesn't do it for you, please let me know, I am on the fence about that one. Also, I think the pommel is lame, but Im having a bit of a block on that. As always, any and all suggestions welcome.

So since this needs to be done very soon, here is the initial texturing and sculpting. More to come of course, but I think its going well.

I know you said this is just first pass but some things I'm noticing maybe you'd want to keep in mind going forward. The surface detail on the pommel looks to fine, first it'll have a tough time coming through in the bake and second it feels a bit to fine for darksiders imo. Another thing that popped out to me is the amount of noise you have on the blade, its not supporting the form. (i like the form)

I bake tested the normals before I read your comment, Panda, and what do you know, you are absolutely right about the pommel. Im glad I posted this image, back to the drawing board with this. Thanks.

Here's a little update on the texture. The wrappings are no longer blurry, and are now red, but that is not represented in this image. Also the normals on the pommel have yet to be addressed.

In BoBo's "make a weapon" he mentions some points to "darksiders-ify" your weapon:
-mixture of material
-gradients in the color
If you're working on the textures still, I think you could benefit by adding some color variation.:)

So a last minute update, getting ready to submit, but not quite! Just a bit more on the texture, some nice renders and we should be goooooood. Unless, of course, there is something you guys think needs to be addressed (hopefully not much)
