I can get my hands on a Quadro 6000 for relatively cheap (1000$)
Is it still worth it to buy a something like this for Maya, considering that Autodesk is developing shader based viewport 2.0 and no mention of compatibility with Nvidia Maximus?.
If you want a new card, spend a few hundred on a gtx 5 series card, and pocket the rest.
Quadro cards are meant for crazy precision. If you were doing Solidworks/Cad type stuff where it was super important, that would make sense. However, my 300 dollar card will run circles around that quadro in udk, maya, etc in regards to frame rate.
I agree with gsokol, just grab a high end consumer graphics card and you'll be golden and can probably go on holiday for the weekend with the money you'll have saved.
not worth it. We have mostly quadros (because they're standard in the dell workstations) and we have viewport issues in max/maya like everyone else, even with the certified drivers.
If you do CAD, go for a quadro, but for 3D it's wasted money imho
So, being the curious idiot that I am, I didn't listen to anyone's advice and I bought it.
Compared to a GTS250 the performance is basically the same in Maya, Mari and Photoshop (at 10x the cost!). Had it for less than a day so hopefully he will take it back tomorrow.

I can never resist a "good deal" ;(.
