Multiple Textures on the Ground?

Hi all, this is my first post and I thank you for reading/helping me out.

First of all, I'm pretty new to UDK. I just taught myself a bit about the basics of landscape editing, but a problem has sprung forward: how does one make the ground sandy in some places and lush in others?

I suspect there's a way to sort of layer landscape, but after scouring the Internet I haven't found much information on it. I would like to avoid 3DS/Maya/what have you, can this be done in just UDK with default materials?
