Hi all, I just ran into this awkward moment where I want to change the color of furniture to white. Its a brown leather sofa that i want to change to white color

. Its a product with copyrights so can not post picture, but i tried this with almost all random shades of brown. As to my simple logic and knowledge so far i have come to this conclusion that since 0=black 1=white and if you nx0=0.
I have come to this because I have tried all color channels, layer settings, played with hue sat, curves, levels and all given color replacement features in Photoshop.
Its easy to change white into any color

but black or brown well...... Any ideas nice intellactual people here?

If you already got a leather texture, its often easier, instead of changing its color, just turn it into an alpha map by making it into greyscale, create a new layer with the color you want, and then overlay it with the alpha, experiment with it.
then select the dark parts (shadwos, not shading) and put them in a new layer with complete black
desaturate the couch and brighten it up until its light grey and remove contrast
then adjust alpha of shadow and hilghtlayer
-> now it should be white
edit: you could also play with vareations
thank you all for tips
