Position Purpose:

The primary role of this position is to rig high quality character assets and put them into the game. The Technical Artist will also serve as a bridge between Artists and Engineers to troubleshoot problems and issues as they arise.

REQUIREMENTS

Prep character models for rigging.
Rig and skin character models in 3ds Max.
Create LODs, shadow meshes, and other similar assets
Set up character materials and shader networks
Set up and refine character physics
Take characters from model to fully functional in game asset
Tune materials and textures
Help artists troubleshoot issues
Instruct artists on best practices for clean and efficient asset creation
Possible venue work depending on project needs
Follow the schedule and pipeline established by the Lead Artist.
Use tracking tools to document progress
Take direction in style and technique
Develop solutions to various production problems relating to the creation and implementation of art assets
Light Photoshop work to refine existing textures
Understands the requirements and constraints of game design, engine, and platform


Knowledge Requirements:

Strong reel demonstrating experience in character rigging for games
In depth knowledge of 3D art production using 3D Studio Max, with a focus on technical art issues.
Strong knowledge of rigging and skinning.

Maya knowledge and experience
Experience with physics solutions
Experience skinning high res characters
Maxscript and/or Python / Mel
Motionbuilder knowledge and experience


Demonstrated Ability To:

Use 3D Studio Max for skinning and rigging
Learn proprietary and commercial software
Quickly master proprietary tools and development processes
Strong organizational skills; experience successfully managing large numbers of files
Work well under pressure
Meet deadlines designated for team projects
Professionalism and the ability to function well within a team
Communicate effectively within team
Ability to prioritize tasks and respond well in an environment with changing needs

How many years of directly related experience are required to be qualified to enter the job?

Minimum 1-2 shipped titles as a technical artist.
