Great work so far! I love the grip, it looks awesome. The only thing I noticed is that the area with the trigger is more of a perfect circle than it is in the concept. Also, make sure there is enough of a bevel on some of the thin line details to be picked up in the normal map if you plan to bake this out. Can't wait to see more!

I agree with Illusive, give those edges a bevel, it will make them stand out a lot more. You also might want to loosen your control edges, they are really tight atm.

your trigger hole area is perfectly circular where the concept is a little misshaped, might add a little more appeal if played around with that a bit

Thank you for the comments, you guys have a good point here. The cartridge does seem to be a tad to flat, a bevel should give it that pop. I should have pointed this out in my first post that I am only concentrating in making a high poly gun, I wont be baking this bad boy out

Ok managed to make the adjustments to the hole where the trigger is, also i had ago at applying an alpha texture to the rubber part of the handle. I will be tweaking it further though. Here is the progress i made today

This seems to be missing medium level detail. It has lots of nice tight details (grooves, holes etc.) and the overall shape is interesting, but it's fairly flat overall. I guess it will look better with colors. Good work so far.

I'd assumed the magazine would be a dual-drum one, where you have a drum either side of the weapon. That's how the concept read for me anyways. Still something to think about

jmt: You have a point there but, the reference shows the gun with all it's surfaces flat. What would your advise be on having it less flat while staying true to the concept. I could bevel theme edges or even give the top some sort of a round curve.

Kartoonhead: That never came across my mind of it being a dual drum cartridge, I may give it a go and see how it might look.

Oh, man... It may be the fact that it's 5 AM over here, but the title had me laughing my ass off.

Good work so far, but I have to agree about the flatness. You could simply just extrude some portions a bit more with a nice bevel.

This may sound super picky and you are doing an awesome job (looking at the ref pic) but I just don't see the need for those circle grill things. Specially the one just above the handle. Even on the ref pic it looks like a very last min added feature which I think it could do without.

Asside from that it looks awesome, specially the handle .

Really nice HS work so far. I'm a little iffy about "reading" how the drum actually feeds into the gun, though.

But you DO know that, to satisfy the people you have disappointed with your title, you HAVE to do a shitgun next.

the reason for the flatness is mostly due to the boxy design, but regardless, some thicker edge bevels will help. yours are currently razor-sharp, so going through and making them nice and beefy should help the volumes of the gun a lot.

Looking good. Is the zbrush pass just for the small details or are you creating any larger pieces in it aswell?

3DFM: At the moment the only thing im using zbrush for is just to produce the smaller finer details, all the larger components are made in Maya

It's been a while since I updated by I've been busy with work and stuff. Modelling is completed and at the moments I am rendering the gun out in keyshot. I have not textured it or anything, im using the materials within keyshot and while playing around with the lighting im trying to recreate the original reference picture. This is still the early stages as I am just testing using photoshop to see how the composit would look like, nothing final
