3dsmax2012 running slow

Heres the specs of my PC

i5-2500k 3.30 ghz
16gb ram
ocz vertex 2 ssd 120 gb (where 3dsmax 2012 is installed on)
Western digital caviar black 1TB
EVGA geforce GTX 460 Fermi 720 mhz 1024mb 3.6ghz GDDR5

Currently my 3dsmax is set to direct3d 9.0. duno how to get it to run direct3d 10 or 11

latest Nvidia driver installed version 8.17.12.8562 for GTX 460

anything mesh that is over 2 mil can barely be edited. Is that normal? Anyway to make my 3dsmax performance better?

I experienced a similar problem with directx in max 2012. Switching the viewport to nitrous from directx improved my fps from 28 to 180 fps.

thanks Irreal, the fps did improve once i changed to nitrous. but trying to edit a mesh at 1.5 mil still takes forever lol. I beginning to wondering if upgrading to a new computer helped at all.

your spec is almost same as me

If u use windown7, turn off airo feature

i turned aero off now, but i notice barely any difference Q_Q. maybe i need to install SAP, or hot fixes?
