Greetings all, I am going to get straight to the point. I can only use my left hand, and have difficulty with 3D modelling and was wonder if anybody out there has anything to assist me with being able to model. Any help will be greatly Appreciated.
Cheers

Well, it's not easy since most modeling aps, and game editors are made for two hands.
I know that zbrush works pretty well with only a mouse, or a pen, since you can zoom in and out by just pressing outside the mesh, and there's a whitebar on the top to pan, if im not mistaken.
is your right hand missing, crippled, unable to move
and what about your right arm, can you move that?
because if its only the hand which does not function properly on could still bild you a custom mouse so you can do atleast basic movement with it, and move klicks to the left hwith shortcuts or custom device
I second a Mouse like this.
Im growing bit bored of using the keyboard and would find it faster to use one hand with maya's marking menus.
With about this many or more buttons to customize you can map your ctrl alt shift etc buttons and use different sections of your fingers to press the buttons as you work. And it would be loaads of fun
Some context for this thread: I met Evan (Darknessedge) at the Toronto IGDA the night of my presentation. I suggested he posted here on polycount for ideas on how he might better model with the use of one hand.
One thing I told him, which I will say now, that as a Max user I am confident that I *could* model with one hand. I *could* do everything I can do now, using nothing but the Quad Menu and/modifier window. I will be slower for it, but it is possible.
If max is something you want to check out, Evan, I would suggest you invest some time in learning its quad menu. I can see it being where you will get increasing faster with the navigation as your muscle memory kicks in and you know exactly where to click, and when.
The pedals are a great idea for quick modifiers: Alt, shift, Ctrl, etc. That way you can easily manipulate your viewport around your model(s).
I got used to the navigation buttons on the bottom right side, you can pan, rotate, zoom all from one click! Also using a modified viewport helps (Quad menu to a tri or duo)! I usually go with one big top chamber on perspective view, and two small ones at the bottom for the orthographic views!
I hope this helps man, other than that a programmable mouse would be key!

Try the same thing with the keyboards and pedals.

RAZER Naga and Warcraft are the best if you prefer to use your thumb over moving your RMB and LMB fingers
Ill be buying the RAZER Naga soon

edit: this image shows the mechanism better. you can move the black bar sideways for X-wise movement, and roll it to move in Y.
I hope i'm wrong but it seems they have folded/abandoned their customers unless anyone can enlighten me so be cautious.
Every double clicking issue i've had with a mouse has been software/driver related. 5+ times my deathadder has started doubleclicking at seemingly random times and reinstalling the drivers always sorted it. Same happened with my previous generic brand laser mouse fixed with driver updates.
It only really covers modeling for you but in your situation, it might just be worth it to streamline your modeling workflow in an external app and render elsewhere, etc. I've used a custom silo UI for years that focused primarily on mouse input when no other app allowed this - and many still don't.
In modo you can remap every single key and mouse button to do whatever command you want, and you can rearrange every UI element to create any layout you want. You could create your own interface from scratch that entirely revolves around single clicks, and change all the common keyboard shortcut buttons to large interface buttons.

If you have gaming pedals, they can be mapped as well.
Custom nested pie menus would probably be able to keep all the needed commands within easy/quick reach of the mouse pointer. The only trick would be the modifier keys, Alt, Ctrl, Shift. A multi button mouse might be able to handle it nicely, though it's a lot of clicking strain to put on one hand. It's a shame Wacom styluses don't come with more buttons.
I'd say look into Silo as well.
That mouse looks crazy though. I imagine just putting shortcuts on each button, adding things like extrude, split poly, insert edge loop.
But good luck darkness. I feel its definitely possible to do one handed. and i feel if you have to, and thats all you do, you really wont even be that much slower than others. especially if you utilize maxs quad menus, or mayas quick menus (i forget the name of them. mentioned earlier in the thread).
That's all I know
Agreed always try reinstalling the drivers and hopefully that'll sort it. I mention warmouse because I don't think you'll get any support if it's faulty which is a shame because it was really good for hotkeys and fast workflow in 3d and general use.
