Fingers vertex stretching!

Hey guys, I am not really a modeler and definitely not an animator, but I am determined to replace the player model. I am reading the documentation.

I figured the easiest way would be to open the Agent.max included in the CE3DOC and duplicate the agent folder in Game/Objects/characters. Then I import my model into the Agent.max scene, which is five objects Head, Torso, Hands, Legs, Feet, and very similar in shape to Agent. Then I try to copy the CrySkins from each of those body parts to my new model, however it strangely distorts my models.

Do I need to use Physique modifier on my reference mesh's? Am I missing a step here, or doing this wrong? I did manage to get a stiff model in game by just extracting a single mesh with no nodes attached, but I'd like to use the Crytek animations.
