you almost fooled me with the first picture, looked like a 3d object at first glance. Very interesting concepts, i especially like the thumbnail enviros, very creative stuff there.
@Zeldrak - it is a 3d proxy model that I did a paint over on and modified it a bit
I am glad you like the enviro thumbs
here are some more, although they are a bit old
I will post some more of this thumbnails in the days to come
your thumbs are ace but I sugggest you put something to relate maybe humans, airplace etc. At the moment it looks either big or small. Just to show the scale
@Eok - yes I know, I'm sorry I forgot, I mean the thumbs were already done when I received the scale advice and I forgot to make those changes but I will definitively do that from now on @dii - thank you very much man @TeriyakiStyle - thank you
yes, unfortunately my approach to everything I do is to find forms in the random shapes
I will try for the future, not to do this that often and have a more constrained approach and try to imagine it first to some extent before I draw it
until then here are some more random thumbs
@ teriyakiStyle - thanks allot man, I intend to render some of the thumbs but I am not sure if I will use the vector shapes in photoshop to do the construction or I will just paint it to a more refined level
I never used Inkscape but I saw some pictures on the site and it does look very nice indeed especialy the hard surface objects
I should give it a try sometimes when I have some time
some more thumbs
@ OverMarvelous - thanks man, hope to have something more than thumbnails soon
@ SupRore - thanks allot man
@ ciaranb - thank you very much
here are some more thumbs
that last thumb pic looks awesome, really digging the iterative approach to it. I like number 4 the best though (top right.) Looks more dynamic in therms of shapes.
@ Jessica Dinh and Zeldrak - thank you, yes I try to do for every concept as much iterations as I can, this is actually my favourite part of the entire design process
@ allmighty_thunder - thank you, about half an hour to an hour of effective time of work for each thumb, I know, I don't work fast at all
@ SSquir33 - thank you very much, I will do at some point some bigger detailed stuff but for a good while there will be just thumbnails, until I solve some of the generating shapes problems that I have
here are some more thumbs
Very consistent style, looking at all of them here you can really get a feel for this scifi world which these places and things are from. Vectors would give you a smoother appearance but do what works for you, as you clearly are!
You have some really interesting looking shape and form going on. I can't wait until you bring some more lighting/atmosphere studies into your environmental thumbnails. I know folks have mentioned putting in scale reference like a person, this seems like a good idea for some of the more abstract scifi concepts. I can tell with some of them the relative scale but others I'm left guessing.
Thanks for sharing, this is awesome to look through!
@ suburbbum - no pre plan what so ever, everything is random stuff
@ Tadao215 - thank you very much man
@ taralqua - thank you, I agree on making the thumbnails more accurate regarding the lighting, I will try to do that from now on, I will also blow up a couple of them and do some bigger sketches, and take care of the scale also
@ Alismuffin - thank you
@ Orange - thank you, hope to have more to show soon
I'd love to see some step by step process with some of this stuff or even some video footage. Your sketches really capture the abstract and apply well to architecture and design in general. Again, I love your stuff, but I want to know how you do it lol.
@suburbbum - what exactly do you want to know about how I do, since your skills are far better than mine
like mentioned before pretty much everything I do is random
as far as the actual technique I use, I start with Gray scales, than ad an colour overlay layer, then another colour layer for some details
in this last piece the ships are also on different layers than the background
but this is all basic stuff, actually I am a very pour illustrator
Freelancing? Daca nu... sadface... Sunt curios sa vad ce mai creezi. Bafta!

I dnt think you really need to worry about going out of your way to show scale in a thumbnail, theres no space ?
When can we see some tighter stuff :P?

But yeh, like the others said, get some shadowy stick men in there for scale
Awesome stuff dude.
