biermarket on a friday is really really busy, and turns into a club-ish type place after a certain time. It has wonderful food, but a little expensive. Once it goes club, its loud music, hard to hear each other. Seems like this sort of gathering would be more about chatting with each other, not grinding up on each other at a club / polishing each others penis tank. Id personally prefer the scotland yard. its more of a pub style place. its right beside the biermarket, on esplanade. its about a 5 minute walk from Union station, which is nice for those coming from outta town.
btw, how should we do the meetup? post pics of us so we know who to look for, or make a reservation under the name polycount? private message phone numbers possible, so we can call if we cant find each other
scotland yard good food. good prices. on esplanade, right beside the biermarket. theres also the keg thats right there. lots of places on esplanade actually. parking lot across the way, and a 5 minute walk from union station for those coming by subway / bus / train.
hmmm, Id say probably 15 - 20? looks like we have 8-10 that are interested that are voicing their interest. a friend at work that watches the forums wants to come too, and im guessin others may bring someone. im thinkin 15 just to be safe. for around 7? gives people time to get there from out of town. and those of you in town to go home first if need be.
When: Friday, September 23rd 2011, 7PM Where:Scotland Yard What!?: I believe this is the first-ever Toronto Polycount Meet-up. I'm coming, so you know it's going to be AWESOME. I'll get drunk and share dirty secrets about other Polycounters, make a fool of myself and in turn encourage you to never visit Polycount again. Who?: This meet-up is open to Polycounters, their friends/loved ones, or anyone with a general interest in game-art.
Waiting for confirmation on this from the venue, but this is the info:

Good luck finding Dr pepper, or Pepsi in the city! (at least at restaurants) Bring your own... In a wineskin or flask and if they do have dr pepper I'm getting us some Irish Car bombs. (Guinness or Dr pepper works)
Work has a Scotch club from 5:30-6:30 so I might not be able to get there for right at 7. If you're aiming for then let me know and I will tell them to expect a handsome young Australian.
OtrickP: If no Dr Pepper, they better at least have Coke. Pepsi is horrible horrible stuff. Pepsi tastes like someone spilled Coke on a dirty dance floor, wiped it clean, then drained the rag in a cup and added some sugar. Tasty!
Adam: I finish class at 2pm, so I'll be there around 7pm. I'll have nothing else to do. Haha.
slipsius -- if you're there a little early let them know more than 20 might be showing up, but that we can just head in to the pub if it makes their lives easier.
Yeah just mention we're not certain it will be that much, and that we're not looking for an intimate dinner setting so whatever they can do to accommodate us is appreciated.
called, told them we are expecting more, to maybe bump it up to 30. we`re not looking for an intimate dinner, its more of a social thing, and the guy said that since we dont know definite numbers, he`ll keep 25 seats for us, with an area for standing (social part of it), and if there are more tables / charis available, they will push em together for us.
OH! the reservation might be under adam... when i said we have a reso at 7, he asked if it was for adam. wasnt till i hung up that i thought wait a minute... what about polycount?
they`ll probably put us in the back room area. its a nice quieter area

The 58 Esplanade location might be a little more convenient for those of who are coming into Town on the train.

I've invited a couple locals, one of which works with you Adam. The other runs a small indie company.
Beer!
edit; what time will everybody be showing up?
Is it too late for me to say that I am interested as well and make it 15-21 people?
Ok there...o.O
Who's the one who works with us?
I'll probably be heading over with Adam after work for 7pm I guess?
We do a lot of Playstation Home stuff, as well as a lot of porting for old laser disk games
I hear Scotland Yard has the finest Haggis. We should have an eating competition, first to eat ANY haggis wins.
Might need to make room for more if the wifey wants to bring friends.
I guess that "punch in the face" will have to wait till the next meeting.
I'll be there, they better have Dr Pepper. No bars/restaurants seem to carry the stuff. Useless!
