I love valve, i love this genre, but to be honest i'm a bit this has just been a straight port of the base MOBA game. I may just stick to LOL. I know this is the better competitive game, but i don't think most gamers are competitive, most just want to have fun. This will certainly capture the core DOTA fans of course.
They will absolutely pwn the asian market with this though. Not saying this wont be a great success, just not what i was personally hoping for. The more i watch this the more i want to stop watching the stream and just play some LOL which has more "fun" gameplay dynamics IMO.
Having played the original DOTA since its early releases I have to say that the gameplay more or less feels the same which is a good thing but I'll reserve my judgement once public beta comes and I hope I could get to play it.Art wise I like the terrain and overall direction but the UI and effects plus the animations can still be improved. If there's one thing I want to change though is Roshan's spot. Its too narrow imo and the opposing team could easily flank them.Widening the area a little should fix the issue..Anyways can't wait to try it myself and goodluck to mineski infinity, they're at 0-3 atm
Is it just me or were some of those teams kinda nooby? I've seen better teamplay just messing around on HoN.Can't wait for the last rounds when the best are playing. High level MOBA play is just awesome.
The game itself looks like alot of fun, (been playing dota since the early version) but i cant see it working out as a spectators "e-sport". It's pretty hard for a newbie to tell who's who and who's winning unlike Starcraft 2 progaming for example.
I only got to watch the 2nd and 3rd game, but the level of play was simply spectacular! It's a pleasure to watch pros completely dominate the game like that.
I finally got my invite the day before GDC and have been playing it a bit since I got back. It's pretty fun after you learn a few of the heroes, but fuck... The player community is just terrible. Every game there's some ass hat who's complaining about noobs or how his team isn't living up to his expectations. Get the fuck over yourself and maybe trying helping new people instead of just saying they suck and that's why your team lost. It'll be nice once the matchmaking and coaching systems are implemented so I can just play a few fun games with my friends and all of the rats who have been playing since 2003 can be grouped up and be forced to play with other unbearable people.
@Zipfinator: Unfortunately that's going to happen with every MOBA style game just cause the general community is like that. Just report and block them Though this is definitely better than HoN.
"It'll be nice once the matchmaking and coaching systems are implemented so I can just play a few fun games with my friends and all of the rats who have been playing since 2003 can be grouped up and be forced to play with other unbearable people."
This made me lul. I've felt your pain as someone new to dota, i've been in for a few months so i can hold my own but god that initial month still leaves scars. Dota is a great game for all levels of play but you need to understand where these guys are coming from, there was no matchmaking in warcraft 3 so scaring off noobs actually created a better play environment. Once the player pool expands it'll all be gravy.
Here's the thing, i've got a handful of hero's I'm now decent with and understand the item build order for that i can play with some confidence, every other hero i get curb stomped. I feel as though i can't expand my tool set and try new things because i end up just killing my team. It'd be awesome if there was a select your hero first mode where they could check your win/loss with a specific hero and appropriately match you, even arranging the team to be fairly well organized. If i pick Venomancer I'm going to tear it up, if i pick Chen, i'm getting my sh*t pushed in. All part of the rush of a team sport though, you know you're playing a legit game when your teammates threaten to sodomize your unborn children if you feed a lane. Good times.
i've actually always found it funny when teamates were raging at me
can't wait until this game releases and all the other casual gamers swarm in who've never played dota before.
Considering how HoN is, Dota2 will be a cesspool of hatred unless it's aggressively moderated. Even LoL, with it's kiddie mechanics is full of flamers and griefers, so a hardcore game like DoTA2 should attract some serious assholes.
@Crazyfingers, I'm not even terrible anymore and am pretty competent with a few heroes but unless my team is pretty much destroying the other team there's usually some dick who starts raging whenever people don't listen to him or someone makes a tiny mistake. One of the recent games I played a guy was raging and when me and another new player would say we weren't aware of whatever happened he'd explain it nicely which was kind of funny.
@Dfacto, I think that the coaching/commend system might help out with the community being too aggressive. At least a while ago they said they were going to give out rewards to people with high ratings which should entice people to not be too big of assholes and maybe even start coaching with that system they are also supposedly going to implement.

Edit: Haha, 12 minutes into the game: Lag..lag, LAG. Yup, it's Dota alright.
also, an unfortunate typographical error
Even some of the voices sound familiar, I think I heard Billy West as Clockwork or something.
*droooooooooool*

I still have no idea what the fuck is going on. It's far more dense than watching a pro Starcraft game.

All part of the experience. :P

I wouldn't think so. They stopped giving out friend invites with the invites a few months ago. Maybe someone's still holding onto one though.
