Duncan: haha thanks mate... just what this thread needed -Cats Dan!: Cheers dude ChaosEidolon: Thanks Willem
Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been a bit busy. I've finished the low poly, the tri count is sitting at about 15k and I've done some bakes. There's a little bit of clean up to do, but here she is fresh out of the oven :poly121:
Del: Thanks man! Fred2303: Cheers. I'll post some closeup shots soon. Darkleopard: haha thanks rockstar6:Thankyou garriola83: Thanks mate RiotForQuiet: Cheers. I've got some old timelapses I put on vimeo, but no female eyes. I'll have to do some new timelapses joymepls: Thanks mate
Started working on the diffuse. I've blocked in the main colours and added some details to the metal armour and pants. The hair is just a placeholder at the moment. I'm hoping to find some time on the weekend to get some more work done on her.... I wanna get her finished soon
This is amazing, like always you produce great work. Im relatively new to polycount but I visit your website constantly for inspiration. I cant wait to see the finished product.
Thanks Pedro, that's nice of you to say. I'm glad I can inspire someone:) Yea hopefully I can get her finished soon, been dragging my feet a bit on this, I just haven't had time to work on her lately
so last week I had a bit of a set back with my wacom pen breaking into about 8 different pieces :poly127: But I got a new one the other day and got back to it. Textures are almost done... here's what she's looking like. Let me know what you think:
Man this is looking so good. i love the face texture. I really need to ask because I have some trouble with this. how do you get so much resolution in your face textures. Ive been able to get to the point where I can make decent results with my textures but im still struggling to get that much detail. Awesome work looking forward to seeing this beauty in all its finished glory.:D
wow dude, your art is so sexy! just a thought, but what do you think about throwing a bit more orange highlights into your texture in a few places? Maybe on the belt, the pouches, the gloves, or the knee-pads? Maybe some decals or badges sewn on or silk-screened on the pants? It might help to bounce the viewer's eyes around a bit. Either way, I absolutely love what you're doing!
praetor187- Thanks man. I usually just give the face more UV space and I'll sometimes give things a slight sharpen to make some of the details pop a bit more. eazy- Thanks for the suggestions. Yea I might look at adding a some more orange in the lower half of the model. I thought about adding some badges in, but that idea got lost somewhere along the way. Not sure if I'll get around to adding them now, but I'll see. Thanks again. nyx702- Cheers mate. I try to put some subtle texture variation in the diffuse and then push the contrast and hues more in the spec, so hopefully that adds some visual interest. That green (and purple) is coming from the spec, but you're right it's a bit too strong at the moment. Thanks for letting me know.
Hmmm great bake and I like the direction you're going in. I'd spend a bit more time on the color-scheme for this one though! You want to end up showing the most detailed and interesting bits without everything blending into each other too much or getting noisy.
Just try painting some colors over your characters suit with some "color overlay" in photoshop to see if you can get any cool colorschemes out of it. Doesn't need to be really really colorful, it could be dark and very subtle colors. You just want to make some things pop more.
actually the face is the weakest part IMHO, rest of it is coming along nice
is ther going to be any hair inside the gap between the hood and the face, looks a bit odd right now.
having that extra hair might help break up the face silhouette a little
Looks incredible afisher. You cant see it but I'm shaking my head cause I had a similar concept drawn out and I had started the base mesh. Looks like ill have to retool it now lol. Keep it up!
I agree about the occlusion for the hood, but otherwise, this looks fantastic! I really love the base too. It's really well done without drawing too much attention.
Kurt Russell Fan Club, Del: Thanks for the suggestions and paint over. You guys are totally right! I'll make those changes tomorrow and update my images. Thanks again
I am always so impressed with your designs. I feel like that is one of the biggest reasons I am drawn to your work. Do you follow/create any concept art or just sorta wing it?
love it man, only crit would be that the lower leg seems a little long, but could be an illusion of the puffy uppers and thin lower, textures are ace man.
this looks fantastic man. wouldn't expect any less. my only suggestion would be that she seems fairly expressionless right now. adding some sort of expression on her face would do a lot to bring her to life...just a thought.
Thanks again Del and Kurt Russell Fan Club for the crits.
tacit math: Thanks dude. Big fan of your designs Rion411: Cheers:) nyx702: Thanks man. designing is something I feel I need to work on. I usually have some sort of concept art or sketches as a rough idea to work from. I re-designed this character so many times...haha woogity: Thankyou. Hopefully it's just because of the pants and other gear slosh: Thanks:) Duncan: haha thanks buddy:poly124: ENODMI: Cheers man.
very very nice! Awesome work, big fan of the folds ^^ great job on doing a great pedestal that fits and that doesn't take too much attention away from the character.
Fred2303: Thanks man! theslingshot: Cheers. Yea I was trying to get that balance with the pedestal without it being too distracting. garriola83: Thanks. For the turntable GIFs: (Hopefully I didn't miss anything)
-In Marmoset, select numbers of frames (I think I went with 36) and output your turntable screenshots.
-In Photoshop, go to File> Scripts> Load Files into Stacks. Now select the folder with all of your screenshots. This will load each of your frames into separate layers.
-Then in the Animation tab, click on the options and select "Make Frames from Layers". Each of the Layers will be loaded as a frame.
-Then to export, File>Save for Web and select GIF and the settings you want.

On the left shoulder armor is that green color painted into the diffuse? It seems sorta strong compared to any of the other subtle color variation.

I'm calling it finished... finally. I might post a turnaround in the next day or so, but thought I'd post these for now. Hope you like it.

Really think you should go ahead and paint in more occlusion for the face, from her hood and hair. Like so:
Nice work otherwise ^ _ ^

question: whats your method for making a turntable gif? thanks
keep it up!!!
