I am a student and am personally focusing on environment design. I love every second of it, even when a model or texture gets ripped apart it just lets you know where you need to improve.
I slide between fan art (the endless renditions of you-know-who) and original carp (often of the open source supporting kind WHICH ARTISTS RARELY DO EVER APPARENTLY)
I am a pro. Working in a game art outsource company as Character artist. My responsibilities are making High and lowpoly characters and Textures for game resolution. We are working on artwork for next and current gen games. Also I do some concept art for myself as it's my hobby.
I am currently working as a 3D animator in the health care industry but I am still a student who wants to go pro one day making games, so I checked that box. My associates is in animation, and I'm finishing my bachelors of computer science this winter. I'm taking some time to figure out where exactly my passion is, and I'm starting to feel very strongly about technical design. Next to tech artist, I think it's a brilliant position for me. My journey has been slightly confusing because my interests have evolved from a environment/prop artist to more of a marriage between my skill sets, but I think I'm finally starting to hone in on something I can see myself doing for a long, long time.
~ This month marks my 1year of being a pro character artist. I give it a few more months before someone realises that they made a terrible terrible mistake...
been pro for 4 years, I probably could of gotten in earlier if I didn't believe all the BS about it being impossible to break in. It ain't easy but it's no where near the navy seals like level of difficulty some people believe.

I had no idea what to fill in here, I study Biology, so I am a student but thought you were referring to some game art related study. I am a hobbyist, I have taught myself everything regarding 3d game art (mainly thanks to PC ) mainly because I thought it was fun, never intending to pursue a career in game art. I am a professional as well since a month or so, working from home for a company in Spain. But I still work terribly slow and don't feel like a real pro yet :P.
I ended up filling in "hobbyist" because that what I have been for the most of my time here on PC.
